This guide will walk you through how to join a Hangout Session with Shenandoah County.

All additional questions should be directed to the Office of Community Development. Point of contact as of March 19th, 2020 is Tyler Hinkle for Google Hangout Sessions. Note that while the tutorial is being done in incognito mode, you should not perform this in incognito mode. This mode is only being use for the tutorial so my saved passwords do not appear and so I can walk through the entire process with you. His email is [email protected] and a direct is 540-459-6204.

Calling In Via Computer Pages 1 - 7

Step 1: Open your preferred Internet Browser (Internet Explorer, Mozilla Firefox, Safari, , etc) and type in the url bar at the top: google.com. Press enter. This should take you to the page below:

Step 2: Click Sign In at the top right of the page and shown below:

Step 3: If you do have a already, put your information in as shown below and proceed to Step 4. If you do not already have a Google account, please skip to Step 6.

Step 4: Insert password as shown below:

Step 5: Click the blue next button on the webpage, or press enter on your keyboard. Skip to Step 11.

Step 6: Click, “Create Account” and choose, “For myself” as shown below:

Step 7: If you want to create a new email then please insert your name, preferred new email, and password, if you wish to use an existing email address that is not a Google account, then click on “Use my current email address instead” and input your existing email like, [email protected]. This will create a Google account off of your existing email, which allows you to use all Google apps except for as you cannot send emails from this email. You can have a different password for this Google account than your existing email.

Step 8: Click the blue next button as shown below:

Step 9: Add your birthday and gender, additional information is not required. Click the blue next button. This is shown below:

Step 10: Read the agreement if you wish, scroll to the bottom of the webpage and click, “I agree” This is shown below:

Step 11: Now that you are logged in, click on the url bar at the top and type in, “hangouts.google.com” and press enter on your keyboard as shown below:

Step 12: Click on the arrow to the right in order to pass through the introductory slides as shown below:

Step 13: From here you are going to want to go to the link that was shared with you by a Shenandoah County employee or found on the official Shenandoah County website. Below are some links to public committees:

Step 14: Once you have clicked on a link you should arrive at a page like the one pictured below. You should click on the email that you have either previously set up or use:

Step 15: This should result in a page like the one pictured below. Congratulations! You have successfully logged into the Google Hangout Session. You should be at this page at the time of a meeting so that you can be added to the call. You can reach this page by going to, “hangouts.google.com” and signing in with the appropriate email. You can message the group at any time.

Calling In Via Google Hangouts App

Step 1: Open the app store on your phone, tablet, or device. Tap the search icon and type in, “Google Hangouts” and press the, “search” button.

Step 2: Once here tap on the Hangouts App or go ahead and tap, “GET” or a similar action if on Android.

Step 3: Once downloaded, tap, “OPEN”, then once the app is opened tap, “GET STARTED”

Step 4: Then go ahead and tap, “Add another account” if you do not already have a Google account linked to your device. Tap, “Continue” when ready. If you already have an account linked, then you can tap it and skip to Step 6.

Step 5: Type in your gmail (or email if you have set it up with a google account as discussed in the computer part of this walkthrough) and password information. Make sure the slider is on for the account you want to use and tap the checkmark at the top right corner.

Step 6: You should have a screen like the one pictured below:

Step 7: Go to the location where the link to the Google Hangouts Session was provided to you (email, text, County Website) and tap on that link.

Step 8: You should have a screen like the one pictured below, or be taken into the group conversation itself. If this is true, then congratulations! You have successfully joined the Google Hangout Session and if you have set notifications on then when a call occurs your phone will notify you. You can also send to members of the session at any time.
