Full Length Album "Usual Suspects: Season III)
8 PIECE HIP-HOP COLLECTIVE BIOGRAPHY Formed in a basement in Ottawa, Ontario, in late 2012, BLAKDENIM blends genres like no Canadian act today. The group fuses hip-hop, funk, rock and soul with lyrical content that ranges from identity issues to daily issues, like picking yourself up after a bad day, perseverance, self- esteem and hope. Influenced by artists like The Roots to Earth, Wind and Fire, there’s no shortage of musical expertise with the line-up consisting of an emcee, female vocalist, 2 trumpets, saxophone, bass guitar, guitar, keys and drums. They soon became known as an incredible live act not to be missed within the Nation’s Capital across a spectrum of music genre fans alike. As finalists in the Live 88.5 Big Money Shot radio competition in 2013, the band was awarded a small sum of money that allowed them to record their debut EP. “Vanguard(EN)” was independently released in 2014, and made top hip-hop charts on college radio and selective rotation on commercial FM stations. Their professional music videos quickly gained traction with thousands of views each. Serious media buzz came from a highly successful club tour in February 2015, and well-attended showcases at Indie Week, where they were a top finalist. BLAKDENIM was destined to become a festival favourite across Ontario and Quebec and soon found them-selves opening for iconic artists like Charles Bradley and Karim Ouellet. BLAKDENIM continues to prove that Ottawa is more than capable of putting out truly elite talent. For an emerging band to have been invited to play these festivals and showcases, including Canadian Music Week, indicates the great potential for career longevity that major festival promoters and industry recognize in them. -

Sammy Strain Story, Part 4: Little Anthony & the Imperials
The Sammy Strain Story Part 4 Little Anthony & the Imperials by Charlie Horner with contributions from Pamela Horner Sammy Strain’s remarkable lifework in music spanned almost 49 years. What started out as street corner singing with some friends in Brooklyn turned into a lifelong career as a professional entertainer. SKHS Annual Report 2006
ACTING DIRECTOR’S STATEMENT The School of Physical and Health Education formally became the School of Kinesiology and Health Studies at Queen’s University through an act of Queen’s Senate on 24 May 2006. The new School of Kinesiology and Health Studies is pleased to provide the seventh annual report on its undertakings and the first report under its new name. This is also my first report as Acting Director of the School. The achievements of our faculty and students were numerous and impressive in 2006. The School’s academic programs consist of a revitalized program in Physical Education, an emerging program in Health Studies, and a new program in Kinesiology that will be launched in September 2007. These programs are positioned to address contemporary concerns, meet students’ needs, and help set research and policy agendas. Our programs reflect a breadth of teaching and research topics from the social sciences underpinning diversity, participation, equity and inclusion, to the epidemiological, biomechanical, and physiological study serving research in health, physical activity, obesity, and sport. Much of this teaching and research focus is distinctive for its critical engagement with the real world. The extensive listing of work in peer reviewed journals, practical reports, policy papers, and the popular press and the high student demand for our programs are evidence of the quality of the teaching and research that is conducted within the School. The research work carried out within the School continues to be supported by several external granting agencies including new grants obtained in 2006 from CIHR, NSERC, the Ontario Ministry of Research and Innovation (OMRI), and the International Development Research Center (IDRC). -

Edward Burtynsky the Human Signature
PRESS RELEASE EDWARD BURTYNSKY 21 Cork Street London W1S 3LZ THE HUMAN SIGNATURE T: 020 7439 7766 [email protected] 17 October - 24 November 2018 www.flowersgallery.com Private View Tuesday 16 October, 6-8PM Flowers Gallery is pleased to announce an exhibition of new work by Edward Burtynsky. These works, created in collaboration with Jennifer Baichwal and Nicholas de Pencier, stem from the artist’s Anthropocene Project, a multidisciplinary investigation into human impact on the planet. The Anthropocene Project debuts this fall with simultaneous museum exhibitions at the Art Gallery of Ontario and the National Gallery of Canada, a feature- length documentary film, and a book. The works on view demonstrate what Burtynsky calls the “indelible human signature” on the planet, caused by incursions into the landscape on an industrial scale. Chronicling the major themes of terraforming and extraction, urbanisation Lithium Mines #1, Salt Flats, Atacama Desert, Chile 2017 and deforestation, Burtynsky conveys the unsettling reality of sweeping resource depletion and extinction. In these photographs, taken from both aerial and subterranean perspectives, and presented at a large scale, the patterns and scars of human-altered landscapes appear to form an abstracted painterly language. From the graduating tonal grids of turquoise and green-gold formed by the expansive lithium extraction ponds on the salt flats of the Atacama desert, to psychedelic fossil-like whorls formed by anthroturbation (human tunnelling) within the potash mines in Russia’s Ural Mountains, they reference the sublime and often surreal qualities of human mark-making. Carrara Marble Quarries #2, shown in the exhibition as a large-scale wall mural, is taken from a frontal perspective of one of the most renowned marble quarries in Carrara, Italy. -

Anthropocene:The Human Epoch
ANTHROPOCENE:THE HUMAN EPOCH A film by Jennifer Baichwal, Nicholas de Pencier, and Edward Burtynsky Narrated by Alicia Vikander Canada / 2018 / 87 mins / Color / English, Russian, Italian, German, Mandarin, and Cantonese with English subtitles **Official Selection | Toronto International Film Festival** **Official Selection | Sundance Film Festival** **Official Selection | Berlin International Film Festival** Distributor Contact: Chris Wells, [email protected] Publicity Contact: Kara Croke, [email protected] Lauren Schwartz, [email protected] David Ninh, [email protected] Kino Lorber, Inc., 333 West 39th St., Suite 503, New York, NY 10018, (212) 629-6880 Synopsis: A cinematic meditation on humanity’s massive reengineering of the planet, ANTHROPOCENE is a four years in the making feature documentary film from the multiple-award winning team of Jennifer Baichwal, Nicholas de Pencier, and Edward Burtynsky. Third in a trilogy that includes MANUFACTURED LANDSCAPES (2006) and WATERMARK (2013), the film follows the research of an international body of scientists, the Anthropocene Working Group who, after nearly 10 years of research, are arguing that the evidence shows the Holocene Epoch gave way to the Anthropocene Epoch in the mid-twentieth century, as a result of profound and lasting human changes to the Earth. From concrete seawalls in China that now cover 60% of the mainland coast, to the biggest terrestrial machines ever built in Germany, to psychedelic potash mines in Russia’s Ural Mountains, to metal festivals in the closed city of Norilsk, to the devastated Great Barrier Reef in Australia and massive marble quarries in Carrara, the filmmakers have traversed the globe using high-end production values and state of the art camera techniques to document the evidence and experience of human planetary domination.
