Measurement of evaluation results indicates that a significant number of the objectives of the project °were attained. Nature and Purposes of the Project This Fine-Arts Educational Improvement Projectis a Title III, ESEA "PACE" project administered throughthe Illinois Midstate Educational Center with offices at905 North Main Street, Normal, Illinois. The project area consists of the live counties of DeWitt,_Livingston, Logan, McLean and Woodford in yhich are located 200.schools in 70 school systems employing approximately3,000 teachers and enrolling some 54,000 pupils. The generalpopiiiation 1 of the project area is about 225,000. A combination of farms and small towns characterizes the area. There is one medium size urban area(Bloomington-Normal) and four smaller county seat cities (Lincoln,Pontiac, Eureka and Clinton). The project is completing its third and final year of operation. It fundtions primarily in the subject fields oeart, drama and music. It has shown consistent growth each year with respect to the numbersof pupils and teachers served, as well as in thequality of its services and its total impact on the area. Last year we felt the project really cameinto its own, and this year we feel justified inrepeating and underlining the following quotation from the1968-69 Project Evaluation Document: 2. 4 "This project embodies a sensitivity toloOal needs and an urgence toward relevance which enables it to penetrate the walls of isolation traditionally existing in this geographic area between fine arts programs and the schools and communities. Children and teachers are priviledged to talk with artists and watch them work.They participate in creative expression through the visual and performing arts. They examine and experience the arts of various cultures and are guided to relate these to' their daily_lives_ and the world around them. Their other studies are enriched and made more meaningfulthrough expanding perceptions of the arts in modernsociety." Within the broad, general pur7oses of (a) helping elementary acid secondary pupils in the project area to better understand, appreciate and take part in the fine arts, (b) helping teachers and administrators to improve the quality and-extend the scope of their fine arts offering, and (c) increasing the publicawareness of educational needs and-opportunities for better living through challenging and rewarding experiencesin the arts, the project has recognized these majorobjectives: (1) To provide enough live performances in enough places so that every child will have opportunities for first-hand experiences with quality concerts, plays, and art exhibits or demonstrations. 3 (2) To provide a wide variety of inservice training experiences for teachers to increase their teaching effectiveness in the fine arts. (3) To proyide several model or exemplary offerings in the form of pilot programs, to demonstrate some unique and promising approaches to fine arts education. (4) To provide needed information, materials and services to the project area schools through the establishment and operation of a ntra Fine Arts Service Center, with an able sta and adequate resources. These overall objectives have served to give the project a sense of direction and balance, and they have been supplemented in terms of specific operational objec- tives in order to inbure project responsiveness to changing needs and to provide a substantial, comprehensive base for evaluation. For purposes of illustration, we cite here the more specific objectives in one of the project's three main subject fields- - ART: g_ 1. "Live Performances" (a) To provide as many schools as possible with demonstrations (ceramics, weaving, drawing, etc.) by traveling artists, so that children, teachers, and parents might become more aware of the values and usefulness of such

A Journal of Literary Translation 22–23 (2009/2010): 33–55 doi:10.4467/16891864ePC.13.002.0856 Monika Woźniak ONCE UPON A TIME THERE WAS A PUSS IN BOOTS: Hanna Januszewska’s POLISH TRANSLATION AND ADAPTATION OF CHARLES Perrault’s FAIRY TALES Abstract: This article opens with an overview of the Polish reception of fairy tales, Perrault’s in particular, since 1700. The introductory section investigates the long- established preference for adaptation rather than translation of this genre in Poland and provides the framework for an in-depth comparative analysis of the first Polish translation of Mother Goose Tales by Hanna Januszewska, published in 1961, as well as her adaptation of Perrault’s tales ten years later. The examination focuses on two questions: first, the cultural distance between the original French text and Polish fairy- tales, which causes objective translation difficulties; second, the cultural, stylistic and linguistic shifts introduced by Januszewska in the process of transforming her earlier translation into a free adaptation of Perrault’s work. These questions lead not only to comparing the originality or literary value of Januszewska’s two proposals, but also to examining the reasons for the enormous popularity of the adapted version. The faithful translation, by all means a good text in itself, did not gain wide recognition and, if not exactly a failure, it was nevertheless an unsuccessful attempt to introduce Polish readers to the original spirit of Mother Goose Tales.     Charles Deering McCormick Library of Special Collections Northwestern University Libraries Dublin Gate Theatre Archive The Dublin Gate Theatre Archive, 1928 - 1979 History: The Dublin Gate Theatre was founded by Hilton Edwards (1903-1982) and Micheál MacLiammóir (1899-1978), two Englishmen who had met touring in Ireland with Anew McMaster's acting company. Edwards was a singer and established Shakespearian actor, and MacLiammóir, actually born Alfred Michael Willmore, had been a noted child actor, then a graphic artist, student of Gaelic, and enthusiast of Celtic culture. Taking their company’s name from Peter Godfrey’s Gate Theatre Studio in London, the young actors' goal was to produce and re-interpret world drama in Dublin, classic and contemporary, providing a new kind of theatre in addition to the established Abbey and its purely Irish plays. Beginning in 1928 in the Peacock Theatre for two seasons, and then in the theatre of the eighteenth century Rotunda Buildings, the two founders, with Edwards as actor, producer and lighting expert, and MacLiammóir as star, costume and scenery designer, along with their supporting board of directors, gave Dublin, and other cities when touring, a long and eclectic list of plays. The Dublin Gate Theatre produced, with their imaginative and innovative style, over 400 different works from Sophocles, Shakespeare, Congreve, Chekhov, Ibsen, O’Neill, Wilde, Shaw, Yeats and many others. They also introduced plays from younger Irish playwrights such as Denis Johnston, Mary Manning, Maura Laverty, Brian Friel, Fr. Desmond Forristal and Micheál MacLiammóir himself. Until his death early in 1978, the year of the Gate’s 50th Anniversary, MacLiammóir wrote, as well as acted and designed for the Gate, plays, revues and three one-man shows, and translated and adapted those of other authors.

Deze eerste editie huldigde niet alleen 100 releases op het Brugse label, maar vierde even- eens het tienjarige jubileum van het Concertgebouw. Proper breathing is considered the single most important skill a singer will learn, but its methodology continues to mystify multitudes of singers and voice teachers. Voice professionals often write treatises with a chapter or two devoted to breathing, whose explanations are extremely varied, complex or vague. Young dramatic sopranos, whose voices are unwieldy and take longer to develop are at a particular disadvantage for absorbing a solid vocal technique. First, a description, classification and brief history of the young dramatic soprano is discussed along with a retracing of breath methodologies relevant to the young dramatic soprano’s development.
