Our guest celebrant and preacher will be Fr. Ed Sheridan, Vicar for Clergy Personnel at the Diocese. (See his Biography on Page 21.) THE HEART OF THE CURÉ OF ARS: The best of this Season of Lent is still to come – Easter! But before that we will have this special week of prayer and reflection centered around the Incorrupt Heart of Saint John Vianney, our patron. As you know “The Heart” was here in Merrick in 2006. That (to my knowledge) was the only time that the Heart of the Curé was ever out of France. This time, however, the Heart has been traveling throughout the United States and will continue through June. The Knights of Columbus have custody of the Curé’s Heart and are covering all the expenses. The relic has been (or will be) in almost every Cathedral in our country. But for us in the Diocese of Rockville Centre, the Heart will be right here in our own parish church. Thanks be to God! Monday, April 8th The Incorrupt Heart arrives at 12 Noon and will be here overnight until 8 AM on April 9th. Thursday, April 11th The Heart arrives at 6:30 AM until 9 PM that evening FOUR (4) DAYS: This week, from April 8th thru April 11th, The Heart will be “bookended” here in Merrick for about two full days. (In the middle of the week the relic will be touring the Diocese of Brooklyn, after being at St. Patrick’s Cathedral over the prior weekend.) The entire week will be an opportunity for us to pray for the church and to pray for the priesthood during these challenging times! We will have several opportunities to pray, reflect and discern where we are at – and where we should be going – as a church. There will be a number of guest speakers/preachers to help us to grow in our faith even while the church is “adrift.” Monday, April 8th 7:30 PM Mass – Fr. Ed Sheridan, Vicar For Clergy, celebrant and homilist Tuesday, April 9th 7 AM Mass – Fr. Zachary and Fr. Frank; 7:30 PM - Msgr. John Strynkowski on “The Death and Resurrection of the Catholic Church” Wednesday, April 10th 7:30 PM - Mr. David G. Bonagura, Jr. on “Keeping the Faith When the Church is Adrift” Thursday, April 11th 7 AM Mass - Fr. Augustine, celebrant and homilist 9 AM Mass – Fr. Charles Mangano, celebrant and homilist 7:30 PM Mass – Fr. Joe Fitzgerald, celebrant and homilist “UNPLANNED”: The movie Unplanned is a HUGE hit. I saw it last weekend and encourage you to see it. Former governor Mike Huckabee noted: “So a 13-year-old girl can get an abortion without her parents even knowing, but can’t see a movie showing what abortion really is without being accompanied by an adult until she’s 17?” Despite many challenges, Unplanned still managed to pull in over $6.1 million last weekend. (See article on Page 15.) This means a movie about a former abortion clinic director turned pro-life advocate secured a 5th place finish for its opening weekend! That’s twice as much as the filmmakers had projected! After all, the movie was only debuting on 1,059 screens. But because of the great performance, the movie is reportedly adding an additional 600 screens this weekend! If Unplanned does become a big box office hit, it will inspire other filmmakers to bring other compelling pro-life stories like this to the big screen. And it is already sending an unmistakable message to the media: you can’t stop the movement for life. Most importantly, the film is changing hearts and minds. Read the comments on social media and elsewhere. Men and women, young and old, are moved by this film. Let’s help them keep it going! Fr. Frank A NOTE FROM LEE HLAVACEK: “There is an appointed time for everything, and a time for every affair under the heavens.” Ecc.3:1 It is with gratitude for your partnership in faith these past 16 years, I share with you that I plan to retire as Director of Religious Education at the end of this faith formation year. I have been blessed to work with so many over the years, and have been standing on the shoulders of many who came before me. My prayer is that with God’s help we will continue to work together to help our children to have a personal relationship with Jesus, receive Jesus often, and respond to His love by making a difference in the world by helping others. • Pro-Life Film Creators Say Social Media Shutdown Was One of ‘Unplanned’ Hurdles
Pro-life film creators say social media shutdown was one of ‘Unplanned’ hurdles The directors of Unplanned, the true story of a Planned Parenthood clinic director turned pro-life activist, described a White House summit on social media as a needed opportunity for conservatives to discuss how Facebook, Twitter and Google and other outlets are shutting out their voices. Those popular online social networking services are conspicuously absent from the list of attendees. The summit will be held July 11. Writers and directors Cary Solomon and Chuck Konzelman, who talked to Catholic News Service ahead of the event, are the creative team behind Unplanned. The movie chronicles Abby Johnson’s rejection of her role as Planned Parenthood surgical abortion clinic director after assisting in an abortion and watching on the sonogram machine, for the first time, as an abortion instrument shreds a baby into pieces. Abby Johnson After quitting her job immediately, Johnson worked as a pro-life activist and wrote a memoir narrating her life-changing experience, which inspired Solomon and Konzelman to create Unplanned. Nothing about making the film was easy, from casting, to funding, to advertising, to screening, Hollywood and the country vehemently bucking this film’s pro-life position. In a U.S. Senate hearing on free speech and online censorship last April, Konzelman gave example after example of media bias against his film. First the Motion Picture Association of America burdened it with what the filmmakers considered an unfair R rating for two scenes: One shows the sonogram portrayal of an abortion and one shows Johnson herself taking an abortion pill and experiencing bloody hemorrhages.

  • Pro-Life Movie Already Having ‘
Pro-life movie already having ‘Unplanned’ impact nationwide Unplanned is gearing up for its national release in Canada July 12, despite non-existent theatre promotion, boycott threats, and media skepticism about the pro-life film’s accuracy and distribution goals. The film has received a 14-A rating in Alberta – with a disturbing content warning – and is slated to appear on Landmark Cinema screens and in some Cineplex and independent theatres, according to organizers of a grassroots campaign to get Unplanned into Canadian cinemas. Abby Johnson But some media are highlighting efforts to boycott the movie and expressing skepticism about the veracity of its account of Abby Johnson’s conversion from abortion clinic director to ardent pro-lifer. Huffpost published a lengthy article questioning whether the movie will reach as many theatres as organizers suggest. The article also highlights concerns of abortion supporters about the negative impact the film could have if it’s widely shown. “The film really poses a danger … It’s not going to have an impact on the larger culture, but it’s going to have a big impact on this small subculture, which can spawn a lot of extremism and harassment, and even violence,” said Joyce Arthur of the Abortion Rights Coalition of Canada. The first public screening of Unplanned was held May 14 at the Edmonton Expo Centre.Kyle Greenham, Grandin Media file photo Media that do report on the film are focusing on abortion supporters’ efforts to boycott theatres that show the film. Unplanned “is full of misinformation about abortion, which isn’t surprising from a propaganda film,” Kathy Dawson, a board member with the Alberta Pro-choice Coalition, told The Toronto Star.

The film doubled its projection for expected box office earnings – bringing in $6.1 million in its opening weekend despite a projection of $2-3 million. That came despite the fact that Twitter has done its best to censor the movie’s account, suspending it on Saturday and resetting it on Sunday. And major television networks, including Lifetime, Hallmark Channel and HGTV all rejected commercials promoting the film, according to The Hollywood Reporter. Fox News reportedly was the only major network to agree to run the ads. Thomas Johannes Hengster University of Dublin, Trinity College September 2009 iv Abstract This work investigates the challenges when modelling a user's intent as he interactively explores a knowledge space and correlating it with subjective expertise about that space. As this exploration is visual in nature the user is not burdened with unnecessary modelling and information seeking concerns in order to maintain flow and immersion. A balance between explicit and implicit modelling techniques needs to be maintained to ensure the user has a contiguous experience.

  • Anti-Choice Propaganda Movie “Unplanned” Could Incite Violence Against Providers
Your Voice for Choice Canada’s only national political pro-choice advocacy group POB 2663, Station Main, Vancouver, BC, V6B 3W3 • [email protected] • www.arcc-cdac.ca Anti-choice propaganda movie “Unplanned” could incite violence against providers June 25, 2019 By Abortion Rights Coalition of Canada (www.arcc-cdac.ca) The American film “Unplanned”, soon to be screened in a few Canadian theatres, is a dangerous piece of anti-abortion propaganda. It preaches an absolutist and extreme case against abortion that has nothing to do with reality. Because of the film’s demonization of abortion providers, pro-choice advocates fear that the movie could incite fanatics to commit acts of harassment or violence against clinics or doctors. “Unplanned” is based on the memoir of Abby Johnson, a former worker at a Texas Planned Parenthood abortion clinic, who quit after converting to the “pro-life” movement, where she now enjoys fame and a comfortable living. Her memoir has been heavily contested, with key elements of her story not credible and unlikely to have happened.* While “Unplanned” has been popular with the anti-choice crowd in the U.S., mainstream reviews of the movie have been uniformly very negative.** In the film, Planned Parenthood and its leaders are portrayed as demonic, cold-hearted monsters, their only goal to maximize profits by selling as many abortions as possible. In reality, the Planned Parenthood Federation of America is non-profit and offers a wide range of basic and mostly free healthcare services for low-income people, with abortion making up just 3.4 percent of its services.
