CLARK COUNTY SCHOOL DISTRICT PHOTO RELEASE For Immediate Release Aug. 26, 2013 Contact Anthony Springer, (702) 799-5304 Superintendent Skorkowsky welcomes district's newest future graduates Class of 2026 students receive surprise visit from superintendent LAS VEGAS - Incoming students at one of Clark County's innovative Zoom Schools got a surprise visit from Superintendent Pat Skorkowsky to start the school year. The superintendent of the nation's fifth-largest school district spent part of his morning at Arturo Cambeiro Elementary School reading to the district's newest students: future graduates of the Class of 2026. Cambeiro Elementary School is one of 14 Zoom Schools in the Clark County School District (CCSD). The Zoom Schools program is the result of bi-partisan legislation and extensive research aimed at supporting the district's English Language Learner students. A total of $50 million was allocated by the state legislature and Gov. Brian Sandoval for the program. Of that amount, CCSD received $39.4 million. Skorkowsky and several invited dignitaries took a tour of the Zoom School which included a visit to the kindergarten class. Other stops included the new reading center, the library and a pre-kindergarten classroom. The superintendent was joined by Nevada Senate Majority Leader Mo Denis, Nevada Senate Minority Leader Michael Roberson, Nevada State Senator Joyce Woodhouse, Assemblywoman Marilyn Dondero Loop, Assemblywoman Lucy Flores, Assemblyman Andy Eisen, Las Vegas Mayor Carolyn Goodman, Las Vegas City Councilman Bob Coffin Trustee Lorraine Alderman, Trustee Patrice Tew and UNLV Boyd School of Law Professor Sylvia Lazos. Grand Canyon University treated Cambeiro teachers to a complimentary breakfast.
