9 RTP/20/45 TAYSIDE AND CENTRAL SCOTLAND TRANSPORT PARTNERSHIP 15 DECEMBER 2020 A NEW REGIONAL TRANSPORT STRATEGY: MAIN ISSUES REPORT UPDATE REPORT BY SENIOR STRATEGY OFFICER This report updates the Partnership on the work to produce a new Regional Transport Strategy for the Tactran region and asks the Partnership to consider in a workshop session at the Partnership meeting (i) the strengths and weaknesses of the transport network (ii) the uncertainties of travel demand and supply. 1 RECOMMENDATIONS 1.1 That the Partnership: (i) Notes continuing work on a new Regional Transport Strategy, and the proposed next steps, including further discussion of the Main Issues Report in early 2021; (ii) Considers the strengths and weaknesses of the transport networks, and uncertainties in terms of travel demands and supply. 2 BACKGROUND 2.1 Regional Transport Strategies have statutory status, as provided for in the Transport (Scotland) Act 2005 (The Act). The Act places a duty on constituent Councils, Health Boards and other public bodies to perform their functions which relate to, or which are affected by transport, consistently with their respective Regional Transport Strategy. The Act requires that Regional Transport Partnerships (RTPs) keep their strategies under review. 2.2 The Partnership Meeting of 15 September 2020 approved the work of preparing a new Regional Transport Strategy (RTS) (report RTP/20/32 refers). 3 DISCUSSION Process 3.1 At the Partnership meeting in September, commitment was given to working with Councils to identify the key issues to be consulted on in a Main Issues Report (MIR), and then to discuss these issues at the December meeting of the Partnership. -

TRAVEL INFORMATION FROM EDINBURGH Follow signs for the A90/M90 Forth Road Bridge. Follow M90 to Perth, and then take A85 Dundee/Aberdeen. Cross the Friarton Bridge over the River Tay. Take exit immediately signposted after the bridge, A94 Coupar Angus road. Follow the A94 to a set of Traffic Lights, go straight ahead. Straight through the next set of lights. At the 3rd set of lights the A94 bends to the right (still signposted Coupar Angus). Follow this road for approx. 1 ½ miles. You will see a sign for Murrayshall (a right turn). If you arrive in New Scone you have come too far and should turn back. Follow the turnoff for 1 ¾ miles. Do not take the first road on the right signposted Murrayshall as it takes you to the driving range. Continue straight ahead. The next right entrance is the Hotel main drive. Total Journey Time: typically, 1 h 5 min - 1 h 40 min (46.6 miles). From Waverley Station, take the ScotRail train to Perth (7 stops). Walk approx. 8 minutes to South Street (Stop M) to get the Stagecoach Gold 7 Scone bus. To get to South Street, turn left onto Leonard St/A989. Continue to follow Leonard St. Continue onto Hospital St. Turn left onto King St. Turn right onto South St. Once on the Stagecoach Gold 7 Scone bus, get off at Mansfield Road (11 stops). Derek and Moira Lawson

Luke 2:11 The Quarterly Newsletter of Christ Church, Warwick, Bermuda Derek and Moira Lawson Derek was born in Dundee, Scotland, on 2nd February 1949, the eldest child (of 3) born to Fettes and Lily Lawson. Moira was privileged (her word) to be born in Edinburgh on 17th September 1951, the elder of 2 daughters born to Norman and Margaret Leighton. Both grew up as regular church attenders – Derek at Dundee Parish Church (St Mary’s) and Moira at St. Aidan’s, Stenhouse, in Edinburgh – and were both active in their congregations. While many teenagers in the 60s drifted away from the church, Derek’s con- tact was, if anything, strengthened through his attending the Youth Camps on Iona (a small is- land off the west coast of Scotland, and the centre of the Iona Community) over three summers. Indeed, looking back, that’s probably where the idea of involvement in ministry had its origin, and, even today, Derek remains an Associate Member of the Iona Community. However, as his father was a solicitor and Derek worked in the family firm during summer holi- days (as a kind of glorified office messenger!), his career path was set and so in 1966 he started his law course at Queen’s College, Dundee (part of the University of St Andrews). He completed his LL.B. degree in 1969 and was one of the first graduates of the University of Dundee – Queen’s College having by then gained the status of an independent university. -

MACKAY, M.A., LL.D., Advocate, SHERIFF OF FIFE AND KINROSS, AN ACCOMPLISHED WORKER IN THE FIELD OF HISTORICAL RESEARCH. INTRODUCTION The following work has two objects in view. The first is to enable the general reader to acquire a knowledge of the significance of the names of places around him—names he is daily using. A greater interest is popularly taken in this subject than is apt to be supposed, and excellent proof of this is afforded by the existence of the strange corruptions which place names are wont to assume by reason of the effort on the part of people to give some meaning to words otherwise unintelligible to them. The other object of the book is to place the results of the writer's research at the disposal of students of the same subject, or of those sciences, such as history, to which it may be auxiliary. The indisputable conclusion to which an analysis of Fife—and Kinross for this purpose may be considered a Fife— part of place names conducts is, that the nomen- clature of the county may be described as purely of Goidelic origin, that is to say, as belonging to the Irish branch of the Celtic dialects, and as perfectly free from Brythonic admixture. There are a few names of Teutonic origin, but these are, so to speak, accidental to the topography of Fife.
