Eastern Illinois jumped on Austin Peay for an early 21-0 lead but the Panthers had to hang on to enjoy a 30-20 victory. The Governors scored with 35 seconds remaining as Gary Orr hit Scott Thomas on a 3-yard pass. Cory Leman broke up Orr’s two-point conversion pass to keep APSU from pulling to within one score. The Panthers opened up with two possessions inside the APSU 30 yard line. CJ James blocked a punt to give EIU the ball on the 9-yard line on the first score while a bad APSU punt on the next possession gave EIU the ball at the 30-yard line. Jake Christensen connected with Danny Vehovic and Kenny Whittaker to score on each of those drives while Austin Signor added on three field goals.
