RECAP

Transfers Jake Christensen and Mon Williams helped carry the load as Eastern Illinois opened with a convincing 31- 6 win over rival Illinois State. Christensen passed for 167 yards completing three touchdowns to three different receivers. Williams paced the Panthers ground game with 87 yards on 16 carries including a score in the second quarter. The Panthers used a two-minute drill drive to end the second quarter as Christensen hit Jimmy Potempa on a 10-yard strike to put EIU up 14-0 at the break. He would connect with Chris Wright in the third quarter as the Panthers extended the lead to 21-0. The EIU defense was strong against the run limiting the Redbirds to just 20 yards on 26 carries.
