Japan got its new emperor Naruhito Emperor ascends to the Chrysanthemum Throne The new emperor, Naruhito (59-year-old), on 1st May received the sacred imperial regalia that represents his rightful succession to the world’s oldest monarchy, Tokyo, Japan. Emperor Akihito of Japan formally stepped down on 30th April 2019 as his son Naruhito prepared to take the Chrysanthemum Throne and usher in a new imperial era. Emperor Akihito Emperor Akihito abdicated the Chrysanthemum Throne three decades after he succeeded his father, the wartime emperor Hirohito. This is the first abdication for 200 years in the world's oldest monarchy. In the “Room of Pine” in Tokyo's Imperial Palace, the popular 85-year-old performed the abdication ritual in the presence of the imperial regalia, an ancient sword and the sacred jewel. 4 Current Affairs May 2019 Akihito (now 85 years old), took the throne in 1989. He devoted his career correcting for a war fought in his father's name. He even brought the aloof monarchy closer to people. He is the first emperor in Japan's modern history whose era did not have a war. While the role of the emperor has been chiefly ceremonial since the end of World War II, the departing monarch acted as the nation’s chief consoler during times of disaster, such as the 2011 earthquake and tsunami, and sought to make amends throughout Asia for Japan’s wartime atrocities. Change of Era Stepping down of Emperor Akihito brings his "Heisei" era to an end and beginning of a new "Reiwa" era with Naruhito's accession. The term "Reiwa" means "Beautiful Harmony". It is derived from "Manyoshu", an anthology of Japanese poems dating back 1,200 years that symbolises Japan's profound public culture and long tradition. 3. Jayshree Vyas appointed as BSEs first independent woman director BSE, formerly known as the Bombay Stock Exchange, has finally appointed its first independent woman director Jayshree Vyas. The appointment was still late by at least a few weeks from the deadline of April 1 given to all top 500 listed companies based on their market capitalisation for appointing an independent woman director on their board. Why the delay? The delay happened as the country’s largest stock exchange was awaiting market regulator Securities and Exchange Board of India's (SEBI) approval on the appointment. Because of the appointment, BSE is now compliant with the regulations. BSE already has two non-executive women directors namely Usha Sangwan and Rajeshree Sabnavis on its Board. Jayshree Vyas Vyas is a professionally-qualified chartered accountant, working as the managing director of Shree Mahila Sewa Sahakari Bank, Ahmedabad, since 1986. She helped in launching the first financial literacy programme in Sewa Bank in 2001. Why the appointment is important? The Companies Act of 2013 mandates a certain class of companies to have at least one woman director on board. SEBI, in compliance with the Companies Act 2013, made it compulsory to have at least one woman on a board from October 2014. Howver, according to some reports as of April 2019, 51 of top 500 National Stock Exchange (NSE) listed companies in terms of market capitalisation had not appointed independent woman director. Corporate Warriors: The Rise and Ramifications of the Privatized Military Industry (International Security, Vol. 26, No. 3, Winter 2001/2002.) A failing government trying to prevent the imminent capture of its capital, a regional power planning for war, a ragtag militia looking to reverse its battlefield losses, a peacekeeping force seeking deployment support, a weak ally attempting to escape its patron’s dictates, a multinational corporation hoping to end constant rebel attacks against its facilities, a drug cartel pursuing high-technology military capabilities, a humanitarian aid group requiring protection within conflict zones, and the world’s sole remaining superpower searching for ways to limit its military costs and risks.1 When thinking in conventional terms, security studies experts would be hard-pressed to find anything that these actors may have in common. They differ in size, relative power, location in the international system, level of wealth, number and type of adversaries, organizational makeup, ideology, legitimacy, objectives, and so on. There is, however, one unifying link: When faced with such diverse security needs, they all sought external military support. Most important is where that support came from: not from a state or even an international organization but rather the global marketplace. It is located here that a unique business form has arisen that I term the “privatized military firm” (PMF). PMFs are profit- driven organizations that trade in professional services intricately linked to warfare. They are corporate bodies that specialize in the provision of military skills—including tactical combat operations, strategic planning, intelligence gathering and analysis, operational support, troop training, and military technical assistance.2 With the rise of the privatized military industry, actors in the global system can access capabilities that extend across the entire spectrum of military 1 activity—from a team of commandos to a wing of fighter jets—simply by becoming a business client.

  • Hon'ble Supreme Court Should Refrain from Passing a Judgment on the Ayodhya Ram Janma Bhoomi – Babri Masjid Matter, in View
Dated: 7.11.2019 To HON’BLE THE CHIEF JUSTICE OF INDIA SUPREME COURT OF INDIA BHAGWAN DAS ROAD NEW DELHI 110201 Hon’ble Supreme Court should refrain from passing a judgment on the Ayodhya Ram Janma Bhoomi – Babri Masjid matter, in view of the manifest massive manipulation of the issue and associated judicial process, by the ruling dispensations (be it Congress or BJP) to implement their political agendas. Judiciary has not yet adjudicated upon the 70 years old criminal fraud committed against the nation by so called ‘Hindu’ groups who planted Ram Lalla idols in the Masjid. The Congress, with help of the administration and Judiciary, maintained status quo in order to keep the Muslims trapped as a vote banks for decades – now the BJP has taken over with the diference that they are scaring Muslims to make inroads into Hindu vote bank. Four conspicuous Issues I. Criminal case fled on 23.12.1949, on installations of idols in Babri Masjid, (u/s 147, 448, 295, in Faizabad) II. Criminal matter on Babri Masjid demolition 1992, (initiated by Liberhan Commission, currently with CBI since 2017) III. Supreme Court Judgement 1994, Ismail Faruqi case regarding ‘Masjid not essential to Islam’ (1994, 6 SCC 360) IV. A community newsletter for the people of Dunedin North from the office of David Clark, MP June 2012 David Clark MP Greetings. At last November’s general election I was elected to represent the people of Dunedin North. I am the Labour party’s replacement for Pete Hodgson, who committed himself to serving Dunedin North for 21 years. My staff and I want to use this newsletter to keep people up to date about the work we are doing, and to discuss issues facing Dunedin and the wider community. For those of you I haven’t yet met, here’s a little about me: I’ve been the Warden at Selwyn College, worked on farms and in factories, worked as a Presbyterian Minister and celebrant, and as a Treasury analyst. And I’ve served on the Otago Community Trust as Deputy Chair. I’m committed to helping create a stronger, more caring society. I am passionate about Dunedin, and I will bring Claire Curran, Martin McArthur from Cadbury’s, David Clark and Labour leader David Shearer on a tour of Cadbury’s considerable energy and wide experience to the task of factory recently. representing this electorate. Hola, hola, holidays On my first regular sitting day as an MP, I had my Waitangi Day and Anzac Day. The glaring anomaly means Member’s Bill drawn from the ballot. I’m getting plenty of at least one of the holidays is lost every seven years, ribbing from some senior colleagues who’ve never had a when they fall on a weekend.
