It is pointless to keep reminiscing on the splendors of great eras. Artists and designers should rather look inward yet forward and produce new visuals. Richard Ishida 2 The Internaonalizaon Working Group at the W3C is involved in reviewing specificaons for internaonalizaon issues – specificaons from inside and outside W3C. It also creates resources for content authors, specificaon developers and others related to internaonalizaon features of the Open Web Plaorm, including educaonal ar0cles, tests, etc. This presentaon will focus on one addi0onal area that has been gathering pace recently – the development of documents that describe text layout requirements for a given language or script. We will start by giving a brief outline of a couple of issues that illustrate the need for these documents. 3 The CSS3 Text module (hNp://www.w3.org/TR/css3-text/) will specify how to apply internaonal typographic effects to web pages. One example is text jus0ficaon, which produces straight lines down both the leU and right margins. Generally speaking, received wisdom says that Arabic does this by stretching the baseline inside words, rather than stretching the inter-word spacing (as would be the case in English text). 3 What’s the Message? Here’s your signal The detection of a signal from another world would be a most remarkable moment in human history. However, if we detect such a signal, is it just a beacon from their technology, without any content, or does it contain information or even a message? Does it resemble sound, or is it like interstellar e-mail? Can we ever understand such a message? This appears to be a tremendous challenge, given that we still have many scripts from our own antiquity that remain undeciphered, despite many serious attempts, over hundreds of years. – And we know far more about humanity than about extra-terrestrial intelligence… We are facing all the complexities involved in understanding and glimpsing the intellect of the author, while the world’s expectations demand immediacy of information. So, where do we begin? Structure and language Information stands out from randomness, it is based on structures. The problem goal we face, after we detect a signal, is to first separate out those information-carrying signals from other phenomena, without being able to engage in a dialogue, and then to learn something about the structure of their content in the passing. This means that we need a suitable filter. We need a way of separating out the interesting stuff; we need a language detector. While identifying the location of origin of a candidate signal can rule out human making, its content could involve a vast array of possible structures, some of which may be beyond our knowledge or imagination; however, for identifying intelligence that shares any pattern with our way of processing and transmitting information, the collective knowledge and examples here on Earth are a good starting point. -

Deep learning has made breakthrough progress in image recognition, target detection and tracking in recent years. It is proved too good at classification tasks. In this paper, we have compared use of Convolutional neural network(CNN), VGG16, Long Short-Term Memory (LSTM), and Bidirectional LSTM to perform offline handwriting New Tai Lue Characters recognition. These methods have been tested on a dataset build by our laboratory. For testing purpose 58795 samples including 9834 test samples of handwriting New Tai Lue Characters are used in these experiments. The experimental results show that the recognition rates are 91.23%, 89.33%, 92.78% for CNN, VGG16 and LSTM. Moreover, the best recognition result is obtained with the Bidirectional LSTM based method, whose recognition rate is 94.87% on the dataset. INTRODUCTION Thai alphabet, used by Thai people, emerges as alphabetic writing evolved from Brahmi of ancient India, including seven types, that is, Siam Thai(Thai), Lan Xang Thai(Lao), Lanna Thai (Tai Tham script), Vietnamese Thai (Daiduan writing), Southern Thai (Old shan writing), Northern Thai (North Thai written words) and Assam Thai (Old Assam written words). -
