Parenting Group

The Families First parent drop in has been successfully operating for around 3 months and has seen numbers of parents accessing the service, steadily rising over the last few weeks. We meet in the Flat at on Tuesday/Friday Mornings and over at the Pentre Gwyn Community Centre on Tuesday afternoon. Parents, carers and guardians are invited to drop in for a coffee and informal chat about any issues or concerns they have.

We have a lovely established group of parents who come each week and offer friendship and support to each other. The Tuesday drop in is currently working with Amber Button who are delivering their "Pathways to Change” programme.

Parents have been getting in touch with their creative sides and been making dreamcatchers and decorative wooden hearts. Over the next couple of weeks we’re expecting visits from the Tenancy Support Team, Family Information Service detached team and local PCSO Nick. The Pentre Gwyn group are looking at what activities are available for children over Summer holidays. So, all in all, a positive start to a much needed service.

Aim High

st The Aim High t eam recently celebrated our 1 Anniversary by holding a special awards night for participating young people and their families. The Wynnstay Hotel hosted a lovely evening of celebrations where young people received certificates of achievement and accreditation to recognise their commitment and progress on their very personal journeys. Families enjoyed a delicious buffet and it was fabulous occ asion enjoyed by everyone who attended. The project itself goes from strength to strength with referrals coming in thick and fast. We will be providing a Summer activity drop in for young people currently on the waiting list so that they can at least access some support whilst waiting for their 1:1 Mentoring to start. Massive thanks to all our friends and colleagues at Caia Park for your support in our first year. We’ve learned a lot about the needs of children and young people in and look forward to supporting more young people to make positive changes over the coming year.
