Leo McFall

After studies on and at an early age, Leo McFall was a national finalist in the BBC Young Musician of the year competition, before going on to study conducting at the Sibelius Academy in Helsinki. While in Finland he conducted numerous Finnish orchestras and co-founded his own ensemble. His graduation concert in 2007 was awarded the highest honours possible. Following further studies at the Zürich Hochschule für Musik, he was a recipient of the Seiji Ozawa Fellowship at Tanglewood in 2008, and won a place on the Deutsche Dirigentenforum in 2009.

Leo McFall enjoys a close working relationship with Bernard Haitink, whom he has assisted many times in concerts with the Royal Concertgebouw, Chicago Symphony, European Union Youth Orchestra and Philharmonic.

As a guest conductor he has worked with orchestras such as the Maggio Musicale Fiorentino, Chicago Civic, Nordwestdeutsche Philharmonie, Orchestre Philharmonique du Luxembourg, Göttingen Symphoniker, Nürnberg Symphoniker, Bergische Symphoniker, Oulu Sinfonia and Turku Philharmonic Orchestras. Also active in , he has conducted Carmen , Così fan tutte , Don Giovanni and Rusalka for Glyndebourne on Tour, as well as Stravinsky’s Renard and at the Glyndebourne Festival. Also committed to contemporary music, he gave the premiere of Julian Philips' The Yellow Sofa at the Glyndebourne Festival, as well as giving first performances of numerous works by Peruvian composer Jimmy Lopez. Also active in chamber music, Leo has participated in masterclasses with Krysia Osostowicz and Ferenc Rados.

He has recently been appointed Assistant Conductor of the Gustav Mahler Jugendorchester, and First Kapellmeister of the Meiningen Opera House.
