Information Provided by NASCAR Statistical Services Today’s Winner: Jeremy Mayfield Team: No. 19 Dodge Dealer’s/ UAW Dodge • Jeremy Mayfield won the GFS Marketplace 400 at Michigan International Speedway, scoring his fifth NASCAR NEXTEL Cup victory in his 368th career start. • Mayfield climbed from seventh to sixth in the NASCAR NEXTEL CUP point standings, now 399 behind first- place Tony Stewart. Mayfield has climbed from a low of 26th after Las Vegas to a season-high sixth-place points ranking. • Mayfield’s last victory came at Richmond last September - 33 races ago. He scored his first victory in 24 races at Michigan International Speedway. • Mayfield became the 10th different race winner in 2005. • Mayfied has scored six top-10 finishes and 15 top-15 finishes in 23 races in 2005. • This was Mayfield’s fourth victory in 280 career superspeedway races. • Kurt Busch led the most laps for the third time in a race this season. He led 65 of the 200 laps raced. • Mayfield led only once for the final six laps. • This is the second victory by a Dodge in 2005. Chevrolet has 12 and Ford has nine. Notebook Items • Scott Riggs (second) posted his first top-10 finish in four races at Michigan International Speedway. It marked his fourth top-10 finish in 2005 and his career-best NASCAR NEXTEL Cup finish. • Matt Kenseth (third) posted his ninth top-10 finish in 13 races at Michigan International Speedway. Kenseth scored his eighth top-10 finish in 2005. Kenseth has scored top-five finishes in two of his last three races. • Carl Edwards (fourth) posted his third top-10 finish in three races at Michigan. Edwards has scored nine top-10 finishes in 2005. Edwards climbed from 10th to ninth in the NASCAR NEXTEL Cup point standings. • Tony Stewart (fifth) posted his ninth top-10 finish in 14 races at Michigan International Speedway. He scored his 15 top-10 finish in 23 races in 2005. Stewart remained first in the NASCAR NEXTEL Cup point standings now 126 points ahead of second place Jimmie Johnson. • Stewart has scored nine straight top-10 finishes including eight top fives. • Jimmie Johnson (10th) has ranked in the top-10 of the NASCAR NEXTEL Cup Series point standings for 56 consecutive races, the longest current streak. The streak began at Atlanta in March 2004. Both Johnson and Stewart have each scored 15 top-10 finishes in 2005, the most of all drivers. • Rusty Wallace (13th) extended a 36-race streak of running at the finish that began at Bristol last August. Wallace has scored 18 top-15 finishes in 23 races in 2005. • Jeff Gordon (15th) climbed from 13th to 12th in the NASCAR NEXTEL Cup point standings, 624 points behind first-place Tony Stewart and 58 points behind 10th-place Jamie McMurray • Dale Earnhardt Jr. (18th) dropped from 15th to 16th in the NASCAR NEXTEL Cup point standings, 724 points behind first-place Tony Stewart and 158 points behind 10th-place Jamie McMurray. • Four of the top-10 positions in the NASCAR NEXTEL Cup point standings changed at Michigan International Speedway • Only six drivers are within 400 points of current point leader Tony Stewart with three races remaining before The Chase begins in New Hampshire in September. • All five Roush drivers led at least one lap in the GFS Marketplace 400.
