FRIDAY 18 OCTOBER 2019 ISLAM 05 The believers and the beloved Prophet MUHAMMAD FATHI

ow does the Quran describe the relationship between the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) and the believers? Is it only a Hleader-follower type of relationship that is all about command and obedience? Going through the Quranic verses that deal with this theme, we can easily observe how beautiful and warm the relation between us and our beloved Prophet. When you read about the com- passion, care and mercy that the Prophet cherished for his followers you will realise why he received such out- standing love and respect by his fol- lowers. In this collection of Quranic verses, Allah Almighty gives a beautiful description of this relationship and draws our attention to requirements entailed by it:

1. The Prophet is closer to the Believers than their own selves, and his wives are their mothers… (Al Ahzab 33:6)

2. There has certainly come to you a Messenger from among yourselves. Grievous to him is what you suffer; he is concerned over you and to the believers is kind and merciful. (Attawbah 9:128)

3. And among them are men who hurt the Prophet and say: “He is lending his ear to every news.” Say: “He listens to what is best for you; he believes in Allah; has faith in the believers; and is a mercy to those of you A drone photo shows Suleymaniye Mosque in Istanbul, Turkey. who believe.” But those who hurt Allah’s Messenger will have a painful torment. Malinga back to lead SL for Australia T20 series

AP COLOMBO

Lasith Malinga will return to lead Sri Lanka in a three-match Twenty20 cricket series against Australia but many players from the young team that performed well on the tour of Pakistan have retained their places. Kusal Perera, Kusal Mendis and Niroshan Dickwella were the other senior players included in a 16-man squad announced by Sri Lanka Cricket yesterday. Sri Lanka sent a second-string team to Pakistan to play ODI and Twenty20 series after several withdrawals over security concerns. Sri Lanka lost the ODI series but stunned Pakistan with a 3-0 series sweep in the T20s without pacer Malinga, who has already retired from ODIs. Sri Lanka gave players a choice over whether to tour Pakistan, and a majority of regular players opted out. Pakistan provided what it called presidential-level security for the touring Sri Lanka team. Sri Lanka returned to Pakistan for the first time after 2009. The first T20 against Australia is at Adelaide on October 27.
