    Western & Southern Open Defending Champions Headline Doubles Fields CINCINNATI (Aug. 11, 2020) – Both the women’s and men’s defending champions are among the initial entries to play doubles at the 2020 Western & Southern Open, which will be held Aug. 20-28 at the USTA Billie Jean King Tennis Center in New York. The 2019 WTA doubles winners – Lucie Hradecka and Andreja Klepac – are joined by the ATP Tour champions – Ivan Dodig and Filip Polasek – to headline the early entries. Other notable entries on the women’s side include the teenage pairing of Cincinnati’s 18-year-old Caty McNally and 16-year-old Coco Gauff. Dubbed “McCoco,” the duo won a pair of WTA titles in 2019 – at Washington, D.C. and Luxembourg – and reached the US Open Round of 16. Elise Mertens and Aryna Sabalenka, who finished 2019 atop the WTA Porsche Race to Shenzen as the season’s No. 1 team, are also in the field. Reigning Australian Open singles champion Sofia Kenin, a 21-year- old American, has entered with former Western & Southern Open singles and doubles winner Victoria Azarenka. The top two teams in the ATP Tour doubles race are entered in the men’s draw. The No. 1 team of Juan Sebastian Cabal and Robert Farah is returning after reaching two straight Western & Southern Open finals.     Sports Authority of India Bopanna-Sharan assured of silver; Ankita takes bronze; Good start in men’s golf Jakarta/ Palembang, August 23: The morning session of the fifth day of the 18th Asian Games brought good tidings from the tennis courts as Rohan Bopanna and Divij Sharan made the final of the men’s doubles, while Ankita Raina picked up a bronze despite losing her semi-final to top-seeded Chinese Zhang Shuai. In shooting, 15-year-old Shardul Vihan had entered the final of the men’s Double Trap scheduled for later in the afternoon. In men’s golf, which began on Thursday, 17-year-old Aadil Bedi got off to a fine start with a 3-under 69 that placed him Tied-4th in the four-round competition, which will conclude on Sunday. There are four medals at stake, individual in men and women and the team events. Among girls, the best Indian was Diksha Dagar, whose 1-under 71, positioned her Tied 8th. Tennis – Rohan Bopanna and Divij enter men’s doubles final; Ankita takes bronze India’s top-seeded men’s doubles pair Rohan Bopanna and Divij Sharan entered the gold medal match of the men’s doubles event, beating Japan’s Kaito Uesugi and Sho Shimambukuro 6-4, 3-6, 10-8 in 72 minutes. The two pairs shared the first two sets and then the Indians won the Tie-breaker 10-8 to enter the final. They are now assured of silver medals. Ankita Raina lost a close semi-final to top seeded China’s Zhang Shuai and had to be content with a bronze medal in women’s tennis at the 18th Asian Games.

Het inspireren en verbinden van deze grote groep is een uitdaging in een samenleving die steeds meer gericht is op het individu. Tennissers delen steeds meer hun eigen tijd in, onder hun eigen voorwaarden. De samenleving verandert en de KNLTB verandert mee. Als aanjager van tennis in Nederland wil de KNLTB zo veel mogelijk mensen meer laten tennissen en er voor zorgen dat zij dat ook blijven doen. Dit doen we door alle partijen die bij onze sport betrokken zijn te inspireren en te verbinden, door de zichtbaarheid van en de beleving van tennis te vergroten én daarnaast goed te luisteren naar de wensen en behoeften van onze tennissers en verenigingen. Met grote topevenementen, als het ABN AMRO World Tennis Tournament en het Libéma Open, vergroten we de populariteit en zichtbaarheid van de tennissport. Door de inzet van verschillende communicatiekanalen brengen we de beleving rond het nationale en internationale toptennis voor het voetlicht en zijn we tevens gids in tennisland. Successen van tennishelden motiveren en inspireren, maar het werkt ook andersom: toptennis is gebaat bij een brede basis.
