VIA FERRATA STOHLWOND This idyllically situated climbing crag was equipped by Mark- us Hofer and Matthias Polig. It offers routes for all grades. Recently, new sectors have been added. Some examples are sector “Alpenzoo” with easy and beautiful routes on slabs and sector “Bockhaus” with many hard routes. Parking lot beetween Larchhof and Vallettina|Flading 4 – 8a

VIA FERRATA SPRECHENSTEIN “Sprechenstein Kofl” is one of the oldest climbing crags in Southtyrol. Walter Bonatti climbed the crack “Fußgängerzone” for the first time with aids in 1956 during his military service in Vipiteno. (VI A2). In 1978, Hanspeter Eisendle succeeded in the first free ascent of the crack with bolts and chocks (at that time 6a+). In 1981, Oswald Santin and Hanspeter Eisen- dle equipped the first sportclimbing routes “Chock du Rock”, “Tiramisu”, “No Tschontsch”, “Leicht drweil” and “Knabernos- si”. The route “Buschwixer” (7c+) was first climbed by the still very young Gerhart Hörhager (1986). The first ascent of

76 the most difficult route of the crag “Purzigol” (8a+) was per- formed by Hanspeter Eisendle on the 15th of April 1989. In the early 90ies, Peter Trenkwalder and Leo Huter bolted the routes “Wams” (7c) and “Ride the Lightning” (7c+). The crag is notorious for the distance between the bolts which are spaced far from each other and the rigorous rating. There are many beautiful routes in the medium grades on the vertical to slightly overhanging wall.

Sprechenstein 5a – 8a+

VIA FERRATA IN VAL RIDANNA | RIDNAUNTAL The climbing crag in Val Ridanna impresses with its sunny lo- cation and has several routes in easy and medium grades. 77 VIA FERRATA MULES | MAULS With the recently developed area of Mules, the Wipptal gained a new interesting climbing crag, which still has potential for another sector. In the current three small sectors you will find routes with cracks, slabs and boulder passages on compact . Almost all of them are in medium grades and above all require a lot of technique. Mules|Mauls 5c – 8a

VIA FERRATA HOHE FESTUNG The climbing crag next to the upper fortress in Fortezza has been enjoying great popularity for beginners and families for years now. Just underneath the wall there is a meadow with tables and benches which makes this crag particularly com- fortable. Sector C is quite new and located above the main sector (B) and has well protected routes in the lower range.
