Email: [email protected] Abstract The paper compiles records from four excursions to study the Odonata fauna of southern Guizhou, China. Between 2007 and 2010 in Xiaoqikong Park and Maolan National Nature Reserve, 104 taxa have been recorded. Some interesting species are discussed, compared with sibling taxa, and information on habitats and habits is given. Introduction The Odonata fauna of Guizhou Province is poorly known and this area has not been surveyed or reported prior this study and private surveys from 2007-2010. The very rich Odonata fauna is triggered in the north by habitats in mainly upland and preserved primary forest, and in the south by relative lowland and the karst topography with its splendid diversity of water biotopes. It is estimated that the province will hold over 200 Odonata species. Many regional forest parks within the Province as well as some nature reserves are open to the public. Two of them, included within the Libo County borders, the southernmost area of Guizhou Province, were surveyed with particular focus on their Odonata fauna. These were: Xiaoqikong Forest Park – one of the most famous tourist sites, including the Zhangjiang River landscape spot and Maolan National Nature Reserve – famous among the Chinese national stage reserves for its Karst forest, waterfalls and carven (Figure 1). 2 Karst forest Odonata from southern Guizhou, China Figure 1. -

ABSTRACT A list of genera presently included in Megapodagrionidae and Pseudolestidae is pro vided, together with information on species for which the larva has been described. Based on the shape of the gills, the genera for which the larva is known can be ar ranged into four groups: (1) species with inflated sack-like gills with a terminal fila ment; (2) species with flat vertical gills; (3) species in which the outer gills in life form a tube folded around the median gill; (4) species with flat horizontal gills. The possible monophyly of these groups is discussed. It is noted that horizontal gills are not found in any other family of Zygoptera. Within the Megapodagrionidae the genera with horizontal gills are, with the exception of Dimeragrion, the only ones lacking setae on the shaft of the genital ligula. On the basis of these two characters it is suggested that this group is monophyletic. -

Consequently, a long wing petiolation may result from evolutionary convergence between different superfamilies of Zygoptera: Calopterygoidea, Lestoidea, Coenagrionoidea and (to a lesser degree) Hemiphlebioidea. The phylogenetic relationships of the Lower Cretaceous subfamily Euarchistigmatinae Carle & Wighton 1990, based on Euarchistigma atrophium Carle & Wighton 1990 from Brazil (Araripe Basin), and the Triassic family Italophlebiidae Whalley 1986 (Italy) are discussed. The relationships of the extant family Hemiphlebiidae are also considered, as are those of the fossil genus Eoprotoneura Carle & Wighton 1990 (Lower Cretaceous of Brazil) which belongs to the Protoneuridae + Isostictidae. -
