ARE SUPER TRAINERS GOOD OR BAD for the SPORT? by Chris Mcgrath Bill Finley Has Part II of His Two-Part Series on “Super Trainers” Dominating the Game of Racing
THURSDAY, JUNE 21, 2018 LETTER FROM ASCOT: HEROES AND GOATS ARE SUPER TRAINERS GOOD by Dave Johnson OR BAD FOR THE SPORT? When I heard the Ascot track announcer say, "Tony Curtis is heading to the stalls," it took me a while to put two and two together. "I thought Tony Curtis was dead," the guy next to me in the press box muttered. I was sure he was, too. But then I realized the announcer was talking about #16 in Wednesday's G2 Royal Hunt Cup Handicap. For those of you who always complain about short fields and favorites with ever blinking low odds, consider the fact that 32 were entered for this race today, and 30 ran. They needed three starting gates for the straight-on one-mile test. The favorite was 7-1. And it wasn't Tony Curtis (GB) (Rock of Click above to watch TDN video of trainers discussing the Gibraltar {Ire})--he finished nineteenth at 40-1. Late money Asuper trainer@ phenomenon poured in on #32 Seniority, making him the tepid public choice. Part II of a two-part series, by Bill Finley Cont. p7 Trainer Dan Peitz never had a particularly big stable, but he always seemed to get the most of what he had. He won the IN TDN EUROPE TODAY GI Test S. in 1996 with Capote Belle (Capote), one of six graded CECIL LEGACY STILL SHINING AT ASCOT stakes she won during her career, and he won the GII Fair On a day when Sir Michael Stoute took hold of the trainers’ Grounds Oaks in 2001 with Real Cozzy (Cozzene). -

Beautiful, Elegant= Daughter of Shastye Set for Book 1 Cont
SATURDAY, 3 OCTOBER 2020 HUNDRED-YEAR HISTORY OF >THE ARC= >BEAUTIFUL, ELEGANT= by Tom Frary DAUGHTER OF SHASTYE Nothing sacred just appears out of the wilderness; it is always the outcome of an evolutionary process with many layers of SET FOR BOOK 1 development. In racing, France and arguably Europe=s self-proclaimed >monument=, the Prix de l=Arc de Triomphe, emerged from a lengthy spell of planning and forethought into how the country could showcase its own talent in direct competition with its neighbours. With the hippodrome at Longchamp superseding the worn-out Champ de Mars circuit in 1857, the Societe d=Encouragement pour l=Amelioration des Races de Chevaux en France looked to provide some prizes to fit the new order. First up was the 1863 launch of the Grand Prix de Paris, serving as the Bois de Boulogne=s testing ground for the vainqueurs of the English Derby and the Prix du Jockey Club. Then, 30 years on, followed the Prix du Conseil Municipal which pitched the 3-year-olds against their elders. It was from that mile-and-a-half contest that the >Arc' as we know it now came to be. In 1920, with the people of Europe turning back to the great irrelevances that the devastation of Mogul is the latest Group 1 winner out of the the First World War had temporarily shelved, the Societe excellent producer Shastye | Scoop Dyga initiated the perfect weight-for-age examination. By Kelsey Riley Cont. p6 When one has a filly like the Galileo (Ire) daughter of Shastye (Ire) (Danehill), Julian Dollar admits, Ayou don=t look at those sorts of horses particularly objectively.@ And to be fair, that assessment likely doesn=t just apply to the Newsells Park Stud general manager.
