FINN TELEPHONE : 714-291-6480 / EXT. 354 SD ~ ADDRESS: RM. 266 DE SALES HALL, ALCALA PARK, SAN DIEGO, CA 92110 "STEPPENWOLF LAUNCHES WEST COAST TOUR AT USD" FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE The University of San Diego Concert Series will present the first event of the season "Steppenwolf" on Friday, October 21, at 7:30 and 10:30 P.M. in USD's Camino Theatre. Concert doors open at 7:00 and 10:15 with seating on a first come, first serve basis. Ticket sales begin October 10 and will be available weekdays at the USD bookstore, through Ticketron and the UCSD box office at $5.00 general admission, $4.50 students. FM listeners will recall Steppenwolf's popular position in the rock genre of the early 70's. Their show can be expected to consist of their golden record hits "Born to be Wild", "Magic Carpet Ride", "The Pusher" and selections from their forthcoming album. Special guest group will be "Delaney Bramlett and Friends", an outgrowth from "Delaney, Bonnie and Friends", which included such pre-fame superstars as Eric Clapton, Leon Russell and Carl Radle . As performed in principal recordings (or demos) by or with Gram Parsons or, in the case of Gram Parsons compositions, performed by others. Gram often varied, adapted or altered the lyrics to non-Parsons compositions; those listed here are as sung by him. Gram’s birth name was Ingram Cecil Connor III. However, ‘Gram Parsons’ is used throughout this document. Following his father’s suicide, Gram’s mother Avis subsequently married Robert Parsons, whose surname Gram adopted. Born Ingram Cecil Connor III, 5th November 1946 - 19th September 1973 and credited as being the founder of modern ‘country-rock’, Gram Parsons was hugely influenced by The Everly Brothers and included a number of their songs in his live and recorded repertoire – most famously ‘Love Hurts’, a truly wonderful rendition with a young Emmylou Harris. He also recorded ‘Brand New Heartache’ and ‘Sleepless Nights’ – also the title of a posthumous album – and very early, in 1967, ‘When Will I Be Loved’. Many would attest that ‘country-rock’ kicked off with The Everly Brothers, and in the late sixties the album Roots was a key and acknowledged influence, but that is not to deny Parsons huge role in developing it. Gram Parsons is best known for his work within the country genre but he also mixed blues, folk, and rock to create what he called “Cosmic American Music”. While he was alive, Gram Parsons was a cult figure that never sold many records but influenced countless fellow musicians, from the Rolling Stones to The Byrds.

JOHN KAY & STEPPENWOLF Biography CELEBRATE THEIR 50TH ANNIVERSARY "The central theme of Feed The Fire," says John Kay, "is, 'don't let the bastards get you down!'" Lyrically, songs such as "Rock & Roll Rebels" and "Hold On" focus on the resiliency of the human spirit in spite of life's many setbacks. The title song speaks to the needs of the inner flame that burns in all of us and drives us in our quest for fulfillment. Other tracks, such as "Man On A Mission", "Rock Steady" and "Rage", are songs of defiance and passion, while "Bad Attitude" and "Give Me News I Can Use", rely on tongue-in-cheek and at times sardonic humor to make their point. In Kay's words: "This album is about and for all the rock and roll rebels, be they 14 or 54, who refuse to throw in the towel and who struggle to keep their dreams alive in the face of ever diminishing freedom." With "Feed The Fire," their most potent album in years, Kay and company have written the newest chapter of the Steppenwolf legend. Kay has certainly lived the life of a rock and roll rebel himself. After a perilous midnight escape from post-war East Germany as a child, he grew up with a steady diet of Armed Forces Radio and became inspired by the likes of Little Richard and Chuck Berry. At age 13, John decided to make rock and roll his life. "Considering I was only 13, legally blind, spoke the wrong language and was on the wrong side of the ocean, maybe I was a little optimistic," he says.

The Church Studio Music Foundation is a non-profit organization with a mission to the Tulsa and surrounding community through music programs, artist development and education.The Tulsa Day Center for the Homeless is a non-profit center providing clients with the need to overcome homelessness, providing a health clinic, case management and the ability to re- enter the community and provide housing on a daily basis. DATE: October 5, 2019 LOCATION: Studio Row - home of the historic Church Studio and Shelter Records. Owned by Leon Russell, the studio is currently under extensive renovation to honor the past music and musicians that played in this historic location. JAMIE OLDAKER: For over forty years, Jamie Oldaker has built a career in the music industry as one of the world’s most respected drummers. Jamie began his career with Leon Russell at the Church Studio as a session musician. He joined Bob Seger and recorded the original Turn the Page track. Bassist Carl Radle introduced Jamie’s playing to Eric Clapton and was then asked to come to Miami and be a part of Eric’s band in 1974 and recorded 461 Ocean Boulevard, which was the beginning of a long career and friendship with Clapton.
