Women’s Ice Hockey were back-to-back DVCHA D2 champions with a 22-0-1 record. The team qualified four ACHA All-Stars, two which were top 10 in Division II scoring. Cheerleading finished 4th out of 16 teams at UCA Nationals in the Division III Grouping. Men’s Ice Hockey (D2) finished the season with a 22-5-1 record. They ranked third in the MACH League and fifth in the ACHA Southeast Regional. Men’s Basketball had two teams qualify for playoffs, both with an 11-5 record. Women’s Basketball ranked 2nd in the Mid-Atlantic Conference, qualified for playoffs and completed a total of 7 campus involvement events. They teach Ballroom, Rhythm, and Latin dancing. The club is taught by Rowan students but sometimes they have guest teachers as well! The club is both competitive and recreational. Prior experience is not needed to join the club, and they welcome students of all levels. Ballroom Dance Club does offer competition spots in regional and national competitions. The club offers instruction for all three weapons: foil, épée, and sabre with two experienced coaches in the sport. Neither equipment nor prior knowledge about fencing is needed to join. Expect a sport in which physicality and strategy work hand in hand, where any body type can compete without an issue, and people from all backgrounds can learn and grow from this great sport.     Biological Sciences | 3 Gregory Hecht Associate Professor Biological Sciences [email protected] Education: BS (Molecular Genetics), University of Rochester MA (Molecular Biology), Princeton University PhD (Molecular Biology), Princeton University Research Expertise: Microbial genetics | Applied microbiology | Biology education My laboratory research interests focus on the use of both modern and “classical” genetic methods to address questions in applied microbiology. The primary project is the development and analysis of bacterial strains with the ability to immobilize soluble lead. We are using the freshwater oligotroph Caulobacter crescentus as a model organism to identify the genes and cellular components that are responsible for the biosorption of lead via a biologically mediated precipitation. We are using so-called classical genetic techniques coupled with whole genome sequence analysis. Our work has demonstrated that cysteine metabolism and enzymatic phosphatase activity are two of the key players in the biosorption of lead. We also conduct biofuels research. To make biofuel fermentations economical, the biocatalyst must have significant tolerance to the biofuel product. We have isolated ethanol-tolerant mutants of Escherichia coli FBR5 and carried out physiological and genomic analyses of these strains, demonstrating that the iron import gene fecA is important in determining the ethanol tolerance of the organism. Other previous applied microbiology projects in my laboratory have included industrial partnerships to study the enhancement of microbial activity in commercial grease traps and an analysis of microbial contamination of rice flour. Recent Academic Projects: My other area of interest is in the retention and education outcomes of students in the biology curriculum. I am currently involved in the Cumberland College Bridges to Rowan University, which focuses on improving the degree completion success rate of minority and disadvantaged students from Cumberland County College who transfer to Rowan University.

    NATIONAL COLLEGIATE MEN’S AND WOMEN’S FENCING CHAMPIONSHIPS RECORDS BOOK 2016 Championship 2 History 4 All-Time Team Results 8 2016 CHAMPIONSHIP HIGHLIGHTS Columbia takes home second straight title: The final day of action at the 2016 NCAA National Collegiate Fencing Championships, held at Brandeis, saw three repeat winners. Two individuals achieved the feat, while Columbia was crowned the team champions for the second year running. The Lions took a 13-point lead into the day, and though it closed to double digits at certain points throughout the day, the repeat was not really in question. Columbia finished with a seven-point victory, 174-167, over Ohio State, thanks to a balanced attack that saw them score 30 points in three of the six weapons and not less than 24 in any of them. “To come out ahead shows what a great group of individuals we have on our team,” Columbia coach Michael Aufrichtig said. “Other than all the practices and workouts and all the preparation, one of the main things it came down to is their heart, their love for each other. So when they’re out there on the strip, they’re fencing for not just themselves but for their entire team.” Columbia is the first repeat NCAA Fencing champion since Penn State in 2009 and 2010. It’s the Lions’ fourth overall combined title since the championship went to this format in 1990. They also won back-to-back titles in 1992 and 1993. Ohio State finished in second place despite qualifying one less than the maximum 12 qualifiers for the championship.

    ENGINEERING Dual-Degree Program stockton.edu/nams Engineering | Dual Degree Program ABOUT THE PROGRAM Building Bridges to Success Designed for motivated students who are well prepared through high school courses in mathematics and science, the five year Dual-degree Engineering Program is administered in joint effort with New Jersey Institute of Technology (NJIT), Rowan University and Rutgers University. It is an academically demanding and competitive program. Students generally attend three years at Stockton and conclude their studies with two years at NJIT, Rowan or Rutgers. Students earn a Bachelor of Science degree from Stockton – in either applied physics, chemistry or mathematics – at the end of the fourth year of the program. Upon completion of the program, they are awarded a Bachelor of Science degree in engineering from NJIT, Rowan or Rutgers or a Master of Science degree in Pharmaceutical Engineering from NJIT.
