Requirements for Romanian citizens traveling abroad The Ministry of Foreign Affairs recommends that Romanian citizens check, before traveling abroad, that their travel documents (passport or identity card) are valid at least six months longer than the expiry date of the visa they apply for. Romanian citizens do not require a visa for the European Union Member States: Austria, Belgium, Bulgaria, Czech Republic, Cyprus, Croatia, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Ireland, Italy, Latvia, Lithuania, Luxemburg, Malta, the Netherlands, Poland, Portugal, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain, Sweden and the United Kingdom. Entry and stay requirements for the European Union Member States are stipulated in Directive 38/2004 of the European Parliament and Council concerning unrestricted circulation and stay on the territory of the Member States for citizens of the European Union and their family members. The following states also allow entry for Romanian citizens on the basis of their identity card: Albania, Andorra, Austria, Belgium, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Bulgaria, Czech Republic, Cyprus, Croatia, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Ireland, Iceland, Italy, Latvia, Liechtenstein, Lithuania, Luxemburg, Macedonia, Malta, Monaco, Montenegro*, Norway*, Netherlands, Poland, Portugal, San Marino*, Serbia*, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland and the United Kingdom.
