Four Tech players were named to the second team of the magazine’s All-America squad. Junior tailback Lee Suggs was named to the second-team offensive unit, while senior tackle David Pugh and senior linebacker Ben Taylor were named to the second-team defense. Senior André Davis was the second-team punt returner. Athlon picked Tech to win the BIG EAST Conference and rated the Hokies as having the league’s best tight ends and wide receivers, best defensive line and best linebackers. • The Sporting News ranked the Hokies No. 6 in the nation heading into the season and also ranked several players and groups among the best in the nation.
