CIES Football Observatory Monthly Report n°37 - September 2018 Financial analysis of the transfer market in the big-5 leagues (2010-2018) Drs Raffaele Poli, Loïc Ravenel and Roger Besson 1. Introduction Since its creation in 2005, the CIES Football Observatory has been monitoring the transfer of players through information published by clubs and the media. This report analyses the paid transactions having taken place since 2010 involving teams from the five major European championships: the English Premier League, the Spanish Liga, the German Bundesliga, the Italian Serie A and the French Ligue 1. The first chapter studies from a historical per- spective the sums paid in transfer fees, while the second analyses the clubs and leagues having benefitted from these investments. The third chapter presents the financial balance sheets for both teams and leagues over the period stretching from 2010 to 2018. The figures published in this report include fixed transfer fees, eventual add-ons, as well as sums paid in the context of paying loans. The sums involved in the case of loans with an obligation to buy are included in the fig- ures for the year in which the agreement was concluded. Within the limits of the available information, the data on recipients take into account the resale percentages negotiated by former clubs. 1 Monthly Report 37 - Financial analysis of the transfer market in the big-5 leagues (2010-2018) 2. (2008). Identification of Segments of Soccer Clubs in the Spanish League First Division With a Latent Class Model. Journal of Sports Economics 9(5): 451-469. Abstract: This paper identifies different groups in a cost function framework of soccer clubs in the Spanish Football League First Division. In particular, we have clustered the sample - comprising data for seasons 1994/95 to 2004/05 - into three groups. To do so, we have implemented a stochastic frontier latent class model, a procedure that also permits us to analyze also the efficiency of the clubs with respect to their own frontiers. The results reveal that some of the clubs could improve their efficiency levels substantially. Keywords: cost efficiency, latent class model, soccer, stochastic frontier. Acknowledgments We are grateful to two anonymous referees for the helpful comments received. We express our gratitude to Angel Barajas, Miguel Cardenal, Joaquín Serrano, Carlos del Campo and Emilio García-Silvero for their support.

  • Acoustic Problems in the New Atlético De Madrid Club Stadium: a Change for the Worse
Acoustic problems in the new Atlético de Madrid Club Stadium: a change for the worse Sánchez Ayuso, José Luis1 GREENBACK, S.L.N.E. www.greenback.es García Ruiz, Javier2 Master on Acoustics Polytechnic University of Madrid ABSTRACT The current Wanda Metropolitano Stadium (Madrid, 2017) has acoustic problems. Outdoor, noise emissions to the environment are upper to limit regulatory values. Indoor, the Acoustics is poorer in respect to the old Vicente Calderón Stadium. Added, changes are observed in the home advantage coefficient of the Atlético de Madrid Club, and the perception of fans and players on the generated sound environment. The soundscape is very different in relation to the old Stadium. Before the inauguration of the stadium, an acoustic model was developed to study the emissions abroad. After first kick off, it was contrasted by on-site measures. Sport results during 2015-2019 period presents relevant changes on several home advantage coefficients. Now, getting good results at home and passing the round in qualifying competitions until reaching the Final seems more difficult. Keywords: Crowd noise, Home Advantage, Stadium soundscape I-INCE Classification of Subject Number: 60 1. INTRODUCTION In 2017 the Wanda Metropolitano Stadium was inaugurated, being the home stadium for the Atlético de Madrid Club. Originally it was an Olympic stadium since 1994 with capacity for 20,000 spectators. Today it has become a football stadium with capacity for 67,703 people seated. _______________________________ 1 [email protected] 2 [email protected] During the design of the new stadium the team of architects has not declared any acoustic consultant and the final result has deficits: No attention is paid to the regulatory requirements regarding emissions abroad and different problems have been observed during the different kind of spectacles celebrated in sports arena.

Moreno-Ternero‡ December 14, 2020 Abstract We study the sharing of revenues raised from the collective sale of broadcasting rights for La Liga, which is strongly regulated by the Spanish government since 2015. Regulation imposes, somewhat surprisingly, that lower bounds and performance measures outweigh the capability (of each club) to generate resources from selling broadcasting rights. Also, more disturbingly, the latter dimension cannot be rationalized by a sharing rule with solid normative grounds. JEL numbers: D63, C71, Z20. We have seen huge (and somewhat controversial) efforts to resume competitions worldwide in the aftermath of the COVID-19 pandemic’s first wave in order to secure broad- casting contracts (in spite of having empty stadiums).
