Spelling Our Way to a Lot of Prizes SEPTEMBER 2018 KWARTAAL 3 TERM Spelling our way to a lot of prizes This year, the annual Spelling Olympiad, had a great build-up! The learners received brain teaser activities in the weeks leading up to the Spelling Olympiad. From doing a word search, to playing Bingo and dressing up as something that starts with the same letter as your name. Even the teachers got involved, with Mr Arno Verster dressed as an admiral, winning a nice Wimpy voucher. The Blessie families again gave fantastic support to this PTA fund raiser and the target of R 150 000 was superseded! A huge thank you goes to every learner that studied their words and everyone that contributed financially. “A lot of people have asked how can you squeeze another game at the end of a long season, but we see this as an honour... But the week is also a reward, because it is not as tense, you enjoy it with the boys and can have a few beers.” - Rassie Erasmus Volume 1, Number 18 06 December 2018 Register to receive your own free weekly newsletter at www.leopardnewsletters.co.za Fantastic Win for the Barbarians After a disappointing tour of the northern hemisphere, Springbok coach Rassie Erasmus honoured his commitment to coach the Barbarians against Argentina last weekend, and came away with the win. The fact that he selected no fewer than 13 current Springboks in his invitational side suggests that he considered the match an opportunity for more Springbok experimentation. The Baabaas scored first after a perfectly-timed inside ball from Schalk Brits paved the way for the first try by Juan Manuel Leguizamon, the Argentina international, scoring against his countrymen inside The Baabaas were first to score in the second half three minutes. But then, in the space of slightly more with Siya Kolisi cantering over but a Julian Montoya than 20 minutes, Argentina scored four tries, all of try and Joaquin Diaz Bonilla conversion restored which were converted. Argentina’s advantage barely five minutes later and then the Baabaas crossed the line again. With the Baabaas trailing 28-7 after spending considerable time in Argentina’s red zone, referee In the 75th minute Lood de Jager powered over for John Lacey awarded the home side a well-deserved the Baabaas fifth try and set Elton Jantjies up to level penalty try to take the score to 28-14, which was also the scores with four minutes left.

  • Rugby Gives You Values: They Aren’T Written but They Are for Life’ Interview with Felipe Contepomi
Irish Migration Studies in Latin America ‘Rugby gives you values: they aren’t written but they are for life’ Interview with Felipe Contepomi By Edmundo Murray Talking to Felipe Contepomi evokes exciting moments in our sporting lives, whether as players or supporters. It is also a way to learn, in a peculiar way, about playing professional rugby with the enthusiasm of an amateur. Born in Buenos Aires, Contepomi went to study at Cardenal Newman School, run by the Irish Christian Brothers, in the outskirts of the city. He started playing rugby at the school, and was quickly picked for the junior selections in Buenos Aires and later at the national level. He has played more than fifty games with The Pumas. His twin brother Manuel is also a player in the national team. A star of the Leinster Rugby team in Ireland, Felipe is also a medical doctor, having graduated from the Royal College of Surgeons. He lives in Dublin with his wife Paula and their daughter Catalina. Edmundo Murray (EM): What influence has your Irish school education had on your life and on your rugby-playing? Felipe Contepomi (FP): [Cardenal] Newman was and still is important in my life. It was my second home, and had a great effect on my educational and life values, and of course on my rugby-playing. Today when you speak of my career, the first milestone is always el Newman. It is an Irish school with high standards, and I was conscious of the Irish character of the school from the beginning, for instance during the Irish tournaments.

“The South African defence seems to lead to overlaps. We did that for two reasons: we didn’t think we could give the story the prominence it deserves; and we anticipated a lull in rugby news post-Rugby World Cup. Consequently, you may already have heard that Rassie and his Springbok team cleaned up the World Rugby Awards, picking up three of the top awards on offer: Springboks were named Team of the Year; That said, there have been three opportunities before Pieter-Steph du Toit was named World Player this for the southern hemisphere double – even if we of the Year; and include the years it was known as the Tri-Nations: Rassie Erasmus was named Coach of the Year. 2007, 2011 & 2015.
