Phone Number 9605135588 E-mail [email protected] Status Individual Type of Mining Open cast semi-mechanized Period of Mining The period of mining is required for 5 years Mr.Vinod Kumar G, residing at Pykarayil, Ezhumattoor (PO), Pathanamthitta District- 689586 has applied for grant of Environmental Clearance from the Hon’ble DEIAA, Pathanamthitta District for the proposed Granite Building stone located in Survey No. 88/1-2(P), 88/1-3(P), 89/2-1(P) & 138/2(P), Own Patta Land over an extent of 0.9862 Hectares at Ezhumattor Village, Mallappally Taluk, Pathanamthitta District, Kerala for a period of 5 years. 2.2 Brief description of nature of the project Part of the proposed land is quarry Permit area and there is no vegetation in that area. The remaining land in the proposed land is mostly covered with native trees, shrubs, herbs, grass, climbers, bushes, etc. The topography of the area is hilly terrain. The highest elevation of the Permit area is 110 m MSL and lowest elevation is 89 m MSL. As the proposed area is hill rock, the drainage of the permit area is towards South-West side. Nos. 88/1-2(P), 88/1-3(P), 89/2-1(P) & 138/2(P) of Ezhumattor Village, Mallappally Taluk, Pathanamthitta District Pre-Feasibility Report Geological Reserves is estimated as 316939 MT and Recoverable Reserves is estimated as 139341 MTof Granite Building stone after leaving necessary safety distance from the permitarea indicated in the precise area letter and relevant mining laws in force. Production Schedule is proposed an average production of 139341 MT and 27868 MT per annum and 107 MT per day for the 260 working days in a year by open cast mining. 2.3 Need for the project and its importance to the country and or region The major need of building stone is due to high compressive strength and durability (among the hardest, dimensional & structural stones) it can effectively withstand the vagaries of nature. Fine-grained granite is employed for ornamental and monumental. Works as well as for inscription purposes. The mineral –rich colours, and the hardness & density, makes its useful for many applications. The proposed mining project will fulfill its end uses in buildings and constructions, bridges, paving, monuments and many other exterior projects. Polished slabs and titles are used in countertops, flooring, retaining walls and landscaping around a centre are used in countertops, flooring, retaining walls and landscaping around a centre fountain / pond, staircase and many other design elements (residential and commercial applications). It is also known as the maintenance – free stone. The mining and associated activities in the mineral bearing areas bring about gains in gross domestic product, ie. There is though a minor contribution by the proposed project but will add to the gains in G.D.P (Gross Domestic Product). A total of 19 people will be employed in the mine. It will create employment (though marginally) for local population. Applicant will pay royalty for the mineral produced from the mine, direct and indirect taxes will be paid thereby contributing to the regional revenue. It is always in demand. So the proposed mining project will fulfill its end users in local market, as it is always in good demand in construction projects. 2.5 Imports / Exports Building stone explored from the mines will be used in the local areas in construction activities like roads, building and railways. The mineral produced from the proposed mine will be sent to the crusher plant located near the quarry site for crushing it to required size before dispatching it to the end use. 2.6 Export possibility No export businesses are taken in this project. 2.7 Domestic/ export markets The rough stone produced will be sold in local market, which is in turn used for construction purposes. 2.8 Employment Generation due to the project Around 19 employees will be engaged in the mines after the expansion and required manpower for mining operation is given in Table 2 – 1. 1. The holy shrine dedicated to Lord Ayyappa is situated 914 metres above sea level amidst dense forests in the rugged terrains of the Western Ghats. Lord Ayyappa is looked upon as the guardian of mountains and there are several shrines dedicated to him all along the Western Ghats. The festivals here are the Mandala Pooja, Makara Vilakku (December/January) and Vishu Kani (April). The temple is also open for pooja on the first 5 days of every Malayalam month. The vehicles go only up to Pampa and the temple, which is situated 5 km away from Pampa, can be reached only by trekking. During the festival period there are frequent buses to this place from Kochi, Thiruvananthapuram and Kottayam.
