Forz£WORD This book was published for the purpose of bringing back fond memo ries of the work and pleasures of the Senior Class of 1933-34. The Pilot has not been published since 1931. This is a departure from tho printed form, which costs more than revenue for its publica tion will permit. It was also published with the hope that in the years to come, when the members of our class have gone out into the world and have become separated from one another, they may live again through the muny happy incidents and scenes recorded in the pages of Tho Pilot.

TO THE SENIORS OF 1934: We arc indeed proud to count you as tho largest class yot to gradutJ.tc; and we will miss you after grc.duation. I am glad to say that tho faculty and all congra tulato you on being one of the best be haved and most active classes tho school has yet h~d. Your attainments have been above our great est expectations.

Bo cautious; be bravo; be honest. The world ncods open minded and intelligent citizens who never coc.sc to know and to c~re. 11iork; study; persist; be kind and helpful. Life has many bles sings for you if you wi 11 only strive to achieve them. Your tecchcrs, your community, your parents have done well by you. Sec that those that fol low you may be inspired to do greater things by your achievements and examples.

THE Pl~INCIPAtS . MESSAGE

As members of the largest class ever to be graduated from the Nederland High School I con gratulate you. The work of a large majority of you has been splendid. You have been loyal, and you have usually succeeded admirably in whatever you have undertaken to do. During yom~ senior year, your work on the Announcer and the Pilot has been most pronounced.

That same loyal devotion to accomplishment of your purpose in life will net you results far beyond your expectations. Remember, that nothing really worth while has ever been accomplished without a great deal of effort on the part of the person striving to realize his purpose. You will be paid for your ability to give value received in your work. Be sure that you are fitted for what you undertake, and then throw yourself into it with all your resources. These four years of high school work have been most pleasant, and tho friendships and associa tions which you have formed will live on.

As the curtain is rung down on your high school career, it is with sadness that we bid you farewell; but there arc bigger and better things ahead for those of you who have the tenacity of purpose and application of self to achiovc them. C. o. Wilson

Game Time: September 8 , 1930 Officials: Mr . L . R. Pietzsch, and Mr . c. o. Wilson Referees: High School Faculty First Quarter The whistle blew for the first quarter of that great game of school . The seventy- one players went into the game with shakey knees and a nervous disposition . In spite of everything that the co captains, Press and Mathe':rs, said to inspire the team, the ball was fumbled often and many incom plete passes v1cre made . Second Quarter ri'he second qua1·tor found the teams returning to the field more assured and self- confident than before . .:~l thou.r"h some of the players had been knocked out du:eing the first quarter, this did not di shear ten nspir l.llg sophomores . r.:iss Earle and r.!r . Mathews proved to be efficient captains . Third Quarter After the half, fifty- four juniors returned to the gridiron refreshed and eager to begin the last half of their high school career . Mr . Mathev.rs again proved his effici0ncy with the aid of Miss Wood . Some of the students almost stumb led, but were successfully helped over their difficulties by the faculty. Fourth Quarter During the fourth quarter, the team was badly hit by Dan Cupid and by those vvho thougpt they had s uff cicnt education; however, due to the splendid leadership of Mrs . Linson and Mr .Wils on, the rest of tho squad wore brouGllt to a safe and successful finish.

The Spooks' County Fair, which was held in the Nederlcnd High School gymnasium on October 31, 1933, proved a great success. Tho gymnasium was beautifully decorated in the Hallowe'en colors. Booths were built around the walls, where different things were sold. Contests, races, tumbling, wrestling, and an old time barn dunce were held, with old t irre music furnished by 1 11 The Lone Star Sercnadcrs ' , r~~rs. Huddleston, and 1'Dadi1 Robin. A packed house witnessed a very entertaining program in the auditorium. RE 'I J E'1\f The Nederland Bulldogs have this year experien ced the greatest football season in the history of the school. Never before has there boon such whole-hearted cooperation among the faculty, tho school, o.nd tho c omnruni ty. This c.lonc hns been largely responsible for the successful football season; for cooperation is tho foundation of all success. It wns also tho cooperation of the team with Coach Konecny and Captains Daigle and Sanderson that mo.de possible the six victories ~nd one tie out of eight games played. The Bulldogs placed two men on the all-district team and one man on the second stringa Ashton Daigle o.nd Edward Sander son, and Bob Hnizlip. Th0 community 2nd school arc indeed proud of such an outstunding toum. The old saying, "Tho bigger they come, tho harder they fall", bD.s o.gu in proved true. Nederland High School has a standing reputation for the willing ness to play all schools, large or small, barring none. This year tho Bulldogs have played every important class B school in the district except Dayton, who co.ncel led their go.me because of cm overcrowded schedule.
