2014 TPA National Coaching Conference Featuring PAUL ANNACONE February 20 – Toronto, ON 8:00 AM – 3:30 PM The Tennis Professionals Association is proud to present the ninth annual TPA National Coaching Conference. This year’s conference features highly-respect coach and former professional tennis player Paul Annacone. Holding career-high rankings of world No. 12 in singles and No. 3 in doubles, Annacone reached the height of his playing career in the mid-1980s. He captured the 1985 Australian Open doubles title with Christo van Rensburg and was a three-time singles titlist at tournaments in Brisbane, Los Angeles, and Vienna. Retiring from the pro circuit in 1993, the American proceeded to make a name for himself as one of the world’s top coaches. He was the longtime coach of 14-time Slam champion Pete Sampras and also instructed Tim Henman before joining Roger Federer’s team from 2010-2013. Annacone also has served in the USTA’s High Performance program and was a head coach for the Lawn Tennis Association, where he also acted as Great Britain’s Davis Cup captain for two years. I'm extremely pleased with how the season played out and managed to sneak my way to 4 titles along the way. My schedule for next season will be full and, as always, focused on trying to win big titles and enjoying the game. I'm starting out in India. Then I go to Australia to prepare for the Australian Open. It’s too early to look much further than that! I hope everyone is getting out on court and enjoying the festive season! 2011 USTA Northern California Tennis Hall of Fame Larry Stefanki Larry Stefanki Larry Stefanki Larry Stefanki’s professional playing and coaching career began when his family relocated to Los Altos from Illinois. "We lived across the street from Los Altos High School; my older brothers Steve and John started playing and I followed suit," Larry explains. Though he also had a passion for baseball, basketball and wrestling, tennis eventually became his main focus, as he explains, "Tennis really suited me; I loved every part of it - the running and the geometry of playing inside a rectangular box – it never got old." Along with playing on the Los Altos High School team, Larry participated in NorCal juniors tournaments. "Tennis was huge at the junior level when I was growing up. Playing in that type of competitive environment drives you to become better," he explains. It was the legendary coach Tom Chivington that drew him to Foothill College his freshman year of college. "My brothers went to Foothill so I have known Tom since I was 10 or 11. Tom is a real special guy; he understood how competitive I was. He’d believe in you and back you and those are qualities that you need in a coach." As a freshman Larry played #3 singles and doubles, and was the first player to win both singles and doubles State Championships in one year. He then earned a three-year full scholarship to UC Berkeley, playing under Bill Wright, where he played #1 singles and earned All American status. As a player on the pro tour Larry earned a career high ranking of 30 in singles and 24 in doubles (with Robert Van’t Hof).

ATP Task Force on Supplements Submits Report • Group of players along with medical and nutrition experts recommend comprehensive program for education, testing and quality assurance • Pharmaceutical giant GlaxoSmithKline (GSK) to pro- actively address athlete needs for reliable supplement supply chain Houston, Texas, U.S.A. – The ATP Task Force on Supplements has completed its work with a recommendation for a sweeping and mandatory player education program on supplements, diet and nutrition, coupled with a commitment from a major multinational pharmaceutical company to produce, test and supply reliable sports nutrition products to ATP players. GlaxoSmithKline (GSK), through its Lucozade Sports Science Academy, will produce a limited range of sports nutrition products for ATP players and have committed to stringent quality control and testing procedures in conjunction with a laboratory affiliated with WADA (World Anti-Doping Agency). This arrangement and a mandatory player education program were approved by the ATP Board of Directors. “As a member of the Task Force, I’m pleased to deliver on a promise to our fellow players to work with the ATP and outside experts to find a way to deal with the supplement contamination concerns affecting not only tennis players but all professional athletes,” said Andre Agassi. “The Task Force’s objectives were reached, and now all ATP players will benefit from its work. I learned a lot about nutrition, health and anti-doping matters during the Task Force process, and hope my experience will be shared by all players who undergo the education programs that will be put in place.” Added Tim Henman, another member of the ATP Task Force: “We need to use sports nutrition products to compete at our best, but we have been understandably too afraid to take anything.
