On behalf of the Board, management & staff of NRL WA I would like to welcome you all to Webber Reserve for the 2020 Smarter than Smoking Junior Grand Final Day. With the devastating impact of the Covid-19 pandemic, it has certain- ly been an unprecedented and unforgettable year for our WA Rugby League community, our nation, and indeed for the world in general. Given the challenges that we have all had to face over the past 6 months, it has been a remarkable feat to collectively navigate our way through the season and to be able to celebrate today’s finale here at the new look home of the Willagee Bears RLC. Our thanks to all the players, parents, guardians, administrators, coaches, referees and volunteers for all your patience, cooperation and determination in working with the NRL WA team to salvage such a successful, albeit challenging season. Our gratitude also to all of our loyal partners and sponsors that have stood by us, in par- ticular Healthway, the Department of Local Government, Sport and Cultural Industries, Cash Converters, Consolidated Energy, All Flags Signs and Banners and Fleetwood/ISS. Likewise our appreciation to all the individual club sponsors for their invaluable support during difficult times. To all the teams competing today, congratulations on making it through to your respective Grand Finals. Play well, play fair, respect the officials, and enjoy the experience and the memories. John Sackson General Manager NRL WA

Player Spotlight U12’s, U13’s & GLT U12’s—North Beach Sea Eagles vs South Perth Lions Lincoln Williams & Austin Tutt Today’s day starts with an absolute belter, with two young halfbacks and playmakers shaping up in what will be an enthralling contest. Firstly, Link as he is affectionately known, is a classic halfback. Talking the whole game, willing his team on verbally and mentally, he also possesses a deft kicking and passing game, which was central to North Beach’s movement game this year. He will need to bring all that for today’s matchup, with Austin. “Tutty”, at 12 years old, is already displaying the hallmarks of today’s prototype playmaker. Strong and fast, with the ability to break a game open by himself, North Beach will need to be awake the whole game and make sure they shut down arguably the most dangerous player on the field. GLT—Ellenbrook Rabbitohs vs Alkimos Tigers Rosie McGehan & Terri Reti In 2020 we welcome the Alkimos Tigers girls to the big dance for the first time. And they take on female powerhouse Ellenbrook in this one. The Rabbitohs are led by dynamic try scorer Rosie McGehan. Fast and with great footwork, raw still comes to mind when you watch Rosie, so it begs the question. How good could she really be? But the Tigers have some ballers as well, with young Terri Reti making a statement 2 weeks ago, scoring a double in this top of the table clash and proving the difference in the Tigers victory. Can she replicate that form and crash the Rabbitohs party? 13’s—South Perth Lions vs Fremantle Roosters Khan Pokere & William Blair A flashy footwork winger, and the player everyone in the U13’s says is “the guy”. Khan is at a new club, in a new position, and with a new coach. And wow has it worked. Whether he is going and looking for work in the middle or finishing moves off out wide, Khan has flourished for the Lions. Meet William Blair. Wow. Outside of the physical, he is as determined a player as you will ever meet. On both sides of the ball. Offence and De- fence, he gives 200% every run and every tackle. Limiting his input on this game will be one of the keys for this contest. And these two will definitely have a say. Ohbion is a devastating back rower. In the mould of the new age pacific islander edge forwards, he is big, fast and incredibly strong, with footwork that is almost unfair. Basically if he was a video game character, you’d think cheat codes were being used. On the flip side we have Mania, who only knows one way and one direction, straight and hard. He is a man mountain and regularly pulls in 4 defenders to stop him on a run. Laying the platform that Beach have used all year, he possesses a deft offload that can break a game open. U15’s—South Perth Lions vs Kalamunda Bulldogs Jonah Sullivan & Julius Anderson-Hiroti 4 time defending champions South Perth Lions, take on the new kids on the block in what should be an intriguing game, and if your watching, these kids are good to watch. Jonah, a promising hooker, is exactly what you want out of that position. A cheeky, probing player, he will continue to test the markers and middle of the Bulldogs all day. He is an apt deci- sion maker, a complete footy head and thrives in the occasion. Julius is more quiet and reserved in his personality. But is a brilliant, ball running fullback. Kind of a throw to the days when fullbacks were just finishers, Julius is a true x-factor. He breaks tackles for fun and could be who Kal- amunda go to with the game on the line. U16’s—Willagee Bears vs South Perth Lions Quinton Dalton & Trent Therkelsen No Giants? The dynasty is over. In one of the most closely contested com- petitions this year, we have the ultra improved Bears against last years upset premier Lions. With an eye on the future, premiership clubs could do worse than look at young Quinton Dalton. Dynamic and fast, with a bit of swagger, he definitely can carry the tag “game-winner”. If he gets in the clear, the Lions should watch out. On the other side, Trent will compete every second the clock is ticking. Fit and with a great understanding of the game, he is one of those player you could put anywhere on the field and he would do the job. Ultra consistent and versatile. What a game to finish!
