REGULAR PUBLIC MEETING August 16, 2017 MINUTES PUBLIC MEETING of the Board of Education, Village of Ridgefield Park, County of Bergen, was held at 7:00 p.m., at the Jr./Sr. High School, One Ozzie Nelson Drive, Ridgefield Park, New Jersey on the above date. The meeting began with the pledge of allegiance. ROLL CALL: Present: Board Members: Ruby-Blue, Merritt Butler, Cooney, Cuozzo, Fytros, Kraljic, Martinez, Thiemann and President DeSantis Absent: Trustee: Lingle OPENING STATEMENT: The New Jersey Public Meetings Law was enacted to insure the right of the public to have advance notice of and to attend the meetings of public bodies at which any business affecting their interest is discussed or acted upon. In accordance with the provisions of this Act, the Ridgefield Park Board of Education has caused notice of this meeting to be published by having the date, time and place thereof posted in the Bergen Record, Municipal Building and Board of Education Offices. The Board convened to Executive Session at 7:00 p.m. EXECUTIVE Motion by Trustee Cuozzo SESSION: Seconded by Trustee Martinez RESOLVE that the Board of Education retire to executive session for the following purpose: Personnel. The Board of Education will return to this public session. The minutes of the executive session shall be made public when the need for confidentiality no longer exists. Vote: Ayes: Trustees: Ruby-Blue, Merritt Butler, Cooney, Cuozzo, Fytros, Kraljic, Martinez, Thiemann and President DeSantis Absent: Trustee: Lingle MINUTES APPROVAL: Motion by Trustee Cuozzo Seconded by Trustee Thiemann RESOLVE that the Board of Education approve the following minutes as submitted: Regular Meeting – June 28, 2017 Regular/Goal Setting Meeting Meeting – July 17, 2017 Vote: Voice - Approved Abstention: Trustees: Ruby-Blue and Fytros for July 17, 2017 meeting. Correction to extra compensation rates for athletics. 2. Congratulations to Rohan Modi for his selection for the Communication Award at NJIT Pre-College Program. It is the second time he has won the award. 3. Update on positions to be filled: Psychology, Behaviorist and Special Education. 4. Strike one resolution, Personnel #31. 5. Notification letters on lead testing mailed to parents. 6. Thanked Mr. Lingle for years of service. Mr. Michael Steinmetz: There is a change to FI# 24. HEARING OF CITIZENS ON AGENDA: Mrs. Susan DeSantis: Why does newspaper say Woodland Park? Answer: The Record has moved to Woodland Park. How many Special Education students have gone out of district? How many new tuitions? Reply: We will have information for next meeting. Mrs. DeSantis had questions on Personnel Nos. 23 (split of stipend). #26, #27, and #32. Mrs. Linda Artuso: Question on FI#20 – Could they have stayed in district? TB test for workers less than 20 hours. Why not? Mr. Koenig replied: Not required. Could be Board be sued if contracted TB? Attorney replied: Can always be sued, but some coverage. Will information be given for bed bug training? The nurse replied: Yes. Question on Personnel No. 30 – Not on entry level, quality does matter. Applaud 8505. Ms. Berlinda Rodriguez: When did Delta-T put in application for NJDOE approval? When did we know? Mr. Steinmetz replied: After agenda was posted. Mrs. Mary Ellen Murphy: Will Scott be removed from Board? Why change to graduation credits? Mr. Thomas Blumenthal: Paperwork of Little Ferry filled out regarding football game, hold harmless agreement? Was there a Board resolution? Mr. Koenig said he would have to check. Was softball agreement approved by the state monitor? Were all resignations submitted since last Board meeting? Any other dual enrollment courses? Reply: Yes. Will provide list at next meeting. HEARING OF CITIZENS OFF AGENDA ITEMS: Mrs. Linda Artuso: Are you starting Adult Education again to raise revenue? Reply: On Discussion with Board. Mrs. Susan DeSantis: Remind: Flushing fountains. Proof of students doing online coursework. Expansion of sports, restore 8th grade programs? Use of some of the additional funds. Administrator stipend – longevity. Why are they getting them in the first place? When did longevity start? Answer: 2014-2015. Is it against Board policy? How many goals were met? Mr. Koenig replied: Current goals on website. We will research it. District goals – met some – not all of them. Please give Mr. DeSantis a list of goals and objectives and those met. Forensic audit? - Administration certificate? Mrs. Mary Ellen Murphy: Pay to play total? Mr. Koenig replied: Put in Board report, first deadline next Friday. Practice started Monday. Opening day letters to all.
