On behalf of Uganda Girl Guides Association and myself would like to take this golden opportunity to thank you so much for entrusting UGGGA with your votes during the 36th World Conference in New Delhi, India. It is upon this background that we warmly welcome all of you to Uganda to join us in the 37th World Conference scheduled from 11 - 17 July 2020 at Speke Resort Hotel Munyonyo. We expect all the 150 Member Organisations and any new potential countries; WAGGGS World Board members; and other dignitaries to attend the Conference. Uganda Girl Guides Association will arrange for all the necessary things required together with WAGGGS to ensure that the Conference is successful. Yours in guiding, Akello Molly Grace Chief Commissioner 1 A BRIEF HISTORY OF UGGA Guiding in Uganda began in 1914 and has been a member of the World Association of Girl Guides and Guides Scouts (WAGGGS) since 1984. Guiding in Uganda is in 112 districts, with a membership of over 386,984 members The Uganda Girl Guides Associationis delighted to receive the Members and honoured guests of the World Association of Girl Guides and Girl Scouts at the 37th WAGGGS World Conference. 2 WELCOME TO UGANDA! Uganda, officially the Republic of Uganda, is a country in East-Central Africa. It is bordered to the east by Kenya, to the north by South Sudan, to the west by the Democratic Republic of the Congo, to the south-west by Rwanda, and to the south by Tanzania. The southern part of the country includes a substantial portion of Lake Victoria, shared with Kenya and Tanzania. Uganda is in the African Great Lakes region. Uganda also lies within the Nile basin, and has a varied but generally a modified equatorial climate. Uganda takes its name from the Buganda kingdom, which encompasses a large portion of the south of the country, including the capital Kampala. How to get to the venue. This location lies approximately 12 kilometres (7 miles), by road, southeast of Kampala's central business district. The Resort is 40 kms by road from Entebbe Airport – the drive takes approximately 40 minutes. UGGA will be at Entebbe Airport on Saturday 11 July and Sunday 12 July to welcome participants and bring them to the Resort. We will also arrange transport for those returning to the airport on Saturday 18 July and Sunday 19 July. The cost of these transfers are included in your registration fee. 5 REGISTRATION REGISTRATION IS OPEN FROM 2 JANUARY TO 11 MAY 2020. Member Organisation are represented by delegates and observers. Full and Associate Member Organisations are entitled to send no more than two voting delegates to the Conference (of which one will be designated the Head Delegate). All Member Organisations are strongly encouraged to ensure that young women are included in their delegations. Based on World Conference document 1a: 37th World Conference Rules of Procedure, each MO may also bring a maximum of 10 observers. As approved at the 36th World Conference, the registration fee has been adapted so that countries in the lower quota bands pay less and the countries in the higher bands pay more, with a discount for young women aged under 30 in all bands. Your registration fee includes: Airport transfers to and from your accommodation from Entebbe International Airport, Uganda Conference bag Wi-Fi access in your hotel and throughout the conference venue Hire of all meeting rooms Attendance at all 37th World Conference sessions, including workshops and networking activities Lunches, refreshment breaks and dinners from Monday 13 July to Friday 17 July inclusive Opening and closing ceremonies Conference documents provided in the four official WAGGGS languages (Arabic, English, French and Spanish) Simultaneous interpretation will be available in all of the main Sessions Guests who are interested in attending individual parts of the programme (such as one day of conference or the opening / closing ceremony) should contact [email protected] to confirm availability and cost. You can do this by registering via Aventri here from 2 January 2020. When reviewing grant applications, these criteria will be taken into account: Ensuring the Conference has a quorum World Board nominee whose MO would otherwise not be represented at Conference Potential Member Organisation proposed for membership at the Conference who would otherwise be unable to attend Associate MO proposed for Full membership at the Conference who would otherwise be unable to attend MOs that are able to fund one, or more, aspects of the total Conference cost (enabling the limited grant funding to enable a greater number of MOs to attend) MOs otherwise not represented at Conference Young women aged under 30 on the first day of the Conference (13 July 2020) Supporting global diversity, i.e. all Regions have some representation INTERNATIONAL SERVICE TEAM Following the success of the International Service Team in 2017, WAGGGS is delighted to offer up to 10 subsidised places at Conference for the International Service Team. You will work alongside our host, UGGA, as part of an international team supporting the delivery of Conference. This opportunity is available to Young Women under 30s. The fee for the International Service Team is USD 700, plus personal travel costs to Uganda. You may also apply for a WAGGGS grant for this role. Please apply by registering via Aventri from 2 January 2020. The deadline is 31 January 2020. 8 CANCELLATION AND REFUND POLICY Kindly note that any registration changes must be made in writing to WAGGGS by email: [email protected] It is not possible to refund registration fees, although these can be transferred to another delegate up until the 30 June 2020. For cancellations or changes to accommodation, please contact your hotel directly. 9 ACCOMMODATION UGGA are pleased to offer a choice of four hotels at different price points for participants. You must book your own accommodation directly with the hotel. Accommodation is not included in the registration fee. Accommodation is booked on a first come, first served basis. Please book early to secure your preferred option and ensure you have made a reservation before the 30 May 2020.
