Formation Formation Transition MODULAR Formation Formation Transition MODULAR Every day, a new adventure. We can design for anything, with modular spaces that remain constantly fluid, movable furniture that quickly invites a larger group, and patterns that are more multi-purpose and flexible. Formation introduces an organic visual texture that responds to this need for less site- specific interior surfaces. Used in combination with Formation Transition, the two styles work together to create color shifts—and bold impressions—across large- scale, open expanses. Ready for anything. FORMATION 11251 Color: Mineraloid 58204 24”x 24” Vertical Ashlar Installation FORMATION TRANSITION 11252 Color: Mineraloid/Caeruleus 58227 24’’x24’’ Vertical Ashlar Installation FORMATION 11251 Color: Pale Umber 58202 FORMATION TRANSITION 11252 Color: Pale Umber/Marengo 58222 24”x 24” Vertical Ashlar Installation Designing for large- scale amenities. As once disparate segments continue to blend and influence each other, commercial spaces deliver a variety of functions and services for the people who live and work in them every day. The hospitality industry, for example, has lent a sense of luxury and at- home comfort to workplace and healthcare settings. Corporate headquarters and hotels are now offering a comprehensive suite of amenities—from wellness services to open cafés and lounge areas to rooftop gardens—creating an entire community within a single building. As the needs for these spaces grow and shift, so do our patterns for the floor. A palette of possibilities. To support this variety of spaces throughout a floorplan, Formation’s color palette is comprised of warm and cool neutrals in light, medium and dark tones, providing a diverse range of color-shifting options. The palette also includes a soothing green to facilitate contemplation, plus a deep purple, lively yellow, bright teal blue, and a bold red to give energy and branding opportunities. FORMATION 11251 Color: Verte 58211 FORMATION 11251 Color: Pale Umber 58202 24”x 24” Vertical Ashlar Installation Fluid space, shifting purpose. Formation Transition provides a unique tool for designers to demarcate space through color shifts on the floor plane, without the need for permanent panels, walls and partitions. Its reductive design is created with a unique thread-up of shifting yarn colors, causing a morphing of areas where the pattern is more defined, to areas that bring a softer interplay. The resulting gradual interchange of color is similar to the way landscapes shift from color to neutral and back again. A fluidity that lends itself to co-working spaces, team collaboration and a general coming together of all who wish to be a part. • Testing Gold Platinum Silver.Qxp
PROCEDURES FOR TESTING GOLD, PLATINUM AND SILVER To test for the karat value of gold, platinum and silver, you will need the following materials and tools: • Black acid testing stone that is washed thoroughly with water prior to each test. • Acids. • Gold testing needles with gold tips - used for comparison with test pieces. Testing for 10K, 12K, 14K Scratch the gold piece to be tested on the stone. Next to this position, scratch the appropriate needle (10, 12 or 14K). Place a drop of the appropriate acid on the stone where the gold was rubbed off. If the gold is the same karat or higher, the color of the scratch mark for the gold piece will appear the same as the mark from the needle. If that gold piece is a lower karat, the scratched deposit will become fainter and eventually disappear. Testing for 18K Scratch the test piece on the stone and apply 18K acid. Any gold that is less than 18K will disappear in less than 30 seconds. Gold that remains on the stone is 18K or higher. Testing for 20K and 24K Scratch the gold piece on the stone. Next, scratch any item of know karat (coin or needle) on the stone. Apply one drop of acid to area. The material that starts to disappear has the lower karat. Testing for Platinum Scratch the test item on the stone and apply one drop of acid to the application on the stone. If the material is platinum, it should keep its white, bright color. White Gold The same procedure for platinum can be used for 18K white gold.

  • Pygoscelis Adeliae) at Cape Crozier, Ross Island, Antarctica PARKER M
Antarctic Science page 1 of 9 (2021) © Antarctic Science Ltd 2021 doi:10.1017/S0954102021000158 Breeding behaviour of colour-aberrant Adélie penguins (Pygoscelis adeliae) at Cape Crozier, Ross Island, Antarctica PARKER M. LEVINSON 1, ANNIE E. SCHMIDT 1, VIRGINIA MORANDINI2, MEGAN ELROD1, DENNIS JONGSOMJIT1 and GRANT BALLARD1 1Point Blue Conservation Science, 3820 Cypress Dr #11, Petaluma, CA 94954, USA 2Oregon State University, 104 Nash Hall, Corvallis, OR 97331, USA [email protected] Abstract: Plumage colour variation occurs widely among bird species and is often associated with individual fitness. More specifically, colouration can affect thermoregulatory ability, mate selection and conspicuousness during foraging. Colour aberrations can be caused by genetic mutations, dietary imbalances, environmental conditions or disease and are rare. Plumage variations have previously been noted in Adélie penguins, although without any follow-up to measure implications for behaviour or fitness. To assess how this low-frequency condition affects breeding in Adélie penguins, we monitored the breeding of several colour-aberrant Adélie penguins during the 2019–2020 nesting season at the large Cape Crozier, Ross Island colony (> 300,000 pairs). In total, we found 12 individuals with unusual plumage for a frequency of 1:50,000 breeding penguins. There were seven dark brown Adélie penguins, three progressive greying Adélie penguins, one dilute Adélie penguin and one brown Adélie penguin, of which five were female, three male and four of unknown sex. Six colour aberrants initiated breeding with a normal-coloured mate, and five raised at least one chick to crèche. The likelihood of breeding and breeding success of colour aberrants were similar to those of normal-coloured Adélie penguins, suggesting that colour aberrations do not negatively affect breeding.

THE CHEMISTRY OF PIGMENTS BY EENEST J. PAEEY, B.Sc. (LoND.), E.I.C., F.C.S. " AUTHOR OF THE CHEMISTRY OF ESSENTIAL OILS AND ARTIFICIAL PERFUMES," ETC. JOHN H. COSTE, F.I.C., F.C.S. WITH FIVE ILLUSTRATIONS LONDON SCOTT, GEEENWOOD & CO. 19 LUDGATE HILL, E.G. 1902 [All rights reserved] t> .; -^C^ GENERM- PREFACE. THE authors have in the following pages endeavoured to indicate the chemical relationships, composition and properties of most of the better -known pigments. During recent years they have given a great deal of attention to the examination of painters' colours, and have from time to time found some difficulty in obtaining reliable information on the subject. This led to a considerable amount of work in obtaining and examining specimens of pigments, and it was felt that the information thus gained might usefully be published. Speaking generally, the plan of the authors has been to treat the various pigments in groups, allied chemically rather than chromatically. Motives of convenience have in some cases led to a modifica- tion of this scheme. The methods of manufacture of colours have been considered rather from the chemical than the technical of view it is point ; not suggested by the authors that the present work is in any sense a manual of colour-making. Analytical processes which, in most cases, the authors have by experience found suitable are described, and the nature of probable impurities, 104628 VI PREFACE. adulterations and other causes of inferiority pointed out, and numerous analyses of genuine and sophisti- cated pigments, for the most part by the authors, are given as illustrating the composition of these bodies.
