Pastoral Letter Dear Friends,

Every time we have a friendly conversation with someone that we know who does not attend church, we are involved in Christian outreach to that person. Through regular contact with non-churchgoers we can do Christ’s work by letting them know about our faith and this can sometimes lead them into a closer relationship with God. Equally, if we are seen as disagreeable types and persons likely to jump to conclusions, being over-judgemental and ready for an argument, then this can have a negative effect on someone who may be looking at a life in faith. They may continue their search but look elsewhere other than our church.

I am always looking for new ways to begin conversations that could allow someone to start to examine their understanding of life values and see if this leads them to begin a search for faith. Sometimes this is a long journey, sometimes something distracts them and they lose their way, other times I hit a brick wall right away, but occasionally there are those special moments that make it all worthwhile when you find yourself talking to someone who ‘gets it’ immediately. You can see as you speak that they have been waiting to hear the words you have been given to say. It all comes together in a glorious exchange of faith and the Holy Spirit can be felt to be at work in those special moments. There was one such glorious moment at the last Baptism I did. I was speaking to the child’s mother and grandmother and our conversation was wonderfully Spirit led.

I have now some helpers when I do a Baptism so that, while I focus on the service. they can speak to the family and friends who come to support the parents and godparents and invite them to our services and other events at the church. I hope that the Lord will bless our endeavour in such a way that we may New & Second-Hand Scooters Bought & Sold inc. It is hard to keep trying different ways to bring people to the Lord, but this is our duty as Christians. It is the duty of all Christians, not just the clergy. You may think you have done your bit, you are too old now; well I am sorry but I don’t think God will let you off because of your age because he ignored age when he wanted to use Abraham to be the father of the nation of Israel. He was 100 years old when his child was born. You may say that you don’t have the required education; sorry, God doesn’t allow that argument to stop him using people for his purpose either. Moses said he wasn’t able to speak in public, but God said that He would give him the words to say. None of the disciples chosen by Jesus were from the upper, or even middle class of Jewish society and yet they were all empowered to do great things in the name of Christ.

I like this quote from the Dalai Lama: “If you think you are too small to make a difference, try sleeping with a mosquito”. If you think you are not worthy, then you are starting in the right place. Our God is big enough and powerful enough to more than compensate for all our mortal inadequacies.

We are well into the Christian year. We have had our celebrations for Easter Sunday, the Ascension, the Day of Pentecost and Trinity Sunday. Now we are in what is classed as “Ordinary time” in the Church calendar. During this time we remember Mary Magdalen, who was cleansed of an evil spirit by Jesus and who was a close follower from then on: there at the cross, there in the garden on Easter morning and an important figure in the early church that formed on the Day of Pentecost.

Mary, the mother of Jesus, is also remembered during this time. Mary, the lowly girl, who was chosen as the Christ -bearer; Mary, the brave young girl, who risked everything for God, to be a mother for God. She was also there at the cross and at the tomb. I can’t imagine her pain on Good Friday or the force of her joy on Easter morning when they realised Jesus had risen! The beheading of John the Baptist is remembered also during this time, as we recall John’s faithful witness and the shameful treatment he received from Herod, the corrupt puppet king. Also remembered are the great Saints, James and Bartholomew, Renault Clio Kia Sportage

New Renault Koleos Dacia Stepway Apostles of our Lord, who lived with and learnt from their master, Jesus, during his 3-year ministry before he was arrested and crucified. After Pentecost, James, Bartholomew and all the Apostles took the word of the Lord all over the countryside and beyond, preaching and teaching as they had been taught by Jesus and praying and healing in his holy name. This commission, to go out into the world and make the name of Jesus known to all people, is still the work of Christians today. It has always been what God the Father wants for us: to spread His words of LOVE & PEACE, of COMMUNITY and CARING to all people, because the world needs to hear these words if there is to be a world worth having for our grandchildren and great-grandchildren. So, let us pray for our Lord to inspire us and lead us, that we may move forward according to his will. Amen.

God Bless Your Priest-in-charge Trevor

Best wishes and good health go to all of our members who have not been too well of late. Also best wishes to all who have birthdays in July and August, especially Pat West who will celebrate her 60th in July. We didn’t have a speaker for June so we finished with a game of Bingo. We had a lovely trip to Porthcawl in May, fine weather to wander in, making a relaxing day out. We had to cancel our trip in June to Cosheston garden centre and Saundersfoot due to inclement weather, but we will reschedule. Our next trip will be on 16th July to Abergavenny. Bobbie asked members if they would kindly donate toiletries for our carnival stall and bring them to the next meeting. On the 14th July, we will be having our summer buffet, but this year, it will be afternoon tea instead of lunch. This will be at 2pm. Our next meeting will be on 3rd July, 2pm at the Rugby Club.

Messy Church and Sunday School.

Sunday June 30th: No Sunday School today because we are worshipping together in St. Maelog’s at 10.30am. Then it is Messy Church - celebrating Revd. Trevor’s birthday with the parable of the Good Samaritan. We will be learning about ‘Who is our neighbour?’ and how we can be good neighbours. After our bandaging relay race, we will be making WWJD (What would Jesus do?) bangles, hand-shaped booklets with promises to help others, a lift-the-flap story book and, of course, something they can eat later. All this and fake wounds too - so if you see a bleeding child please don’t panic - check it’s not real before calling an ambulance.

On July 28th, Messy Church moves to Ferryside for Kieran’s Baptism in the sea. Please come and support him on this very special day. There will be indoor and outdoor fun, a music group to help us make a ‘joyful noise’ and a Bring & Share buffet in the Yacht Club. Everybody welcome! Contact Dee if you would like to contribute to the food. If you know of anyone else who would like to be baptised in the sea, please contact Trevor on 01554 891311. Friends of St. Mary's Church

Would you be interested in becoming a Friend Friends of St. Mary’s are attempting to contact people who have either a connection with the Church or would like to support its work. Thanks to everyone who supported in any way the MU afternoon tea on Saturday 15th June. We raised £377 which will be shared between our branch funds and the Supper of Hope appeal which this year will be educating mums in Burundi, bonding families (£145 helps educate 10 women) in Northern Ireland (MU brings hope to children whose mums are in prison) and uniting communities in South Sudan. (MU is building bridges within divided communities that are living in a nation ravaged by civil unrest.)

A trip to St. David’s Cathedral Library has been arranged for Wednesday, 10th July departing Kidwelly at 12 noon, with a tour of the library at 2.00pm. There is a list at the back of church; if you would like to go please sign up. The cost of the bus is in the region of £12.50. We will also be calling somewhere on the way home for a meal. This is open to non-members. Thanks to Roger for organising the tour.

We have arranged to hold a Quiz at the Rugby Club on Friday 19th July at 7.00pm. £2 per person with teams of 6. Proceeds are being shared with the Church to help with funds for the refurbishment of the Parish Room. Rolls will be available during the interval.

It is intended to hold a MU Deanery Lunch at the Falcon Hotel, on Mary Sumner Day, Friday 9th August. A list will be at the back of church to sign up if you would like to go. Steve Jones accounts Kidwelly

As always, we keep our Indoor members and all sick and housebound parishioners in our prayers: O God, give me the gift of peace, help me to take things calmly. Help me not to get in a panic when things go wrong. Help me to take things as they come, a day at a time. Keep me calm and steady so that others may be able to rely on me when they are up against it. This I ask in Jesus' name. Amen (A prayer from our 'Dear Lord' prayer book.)

Ty-Golau

Ty-Golau celebrates its 10 year anniversary in style. Great preparations were made for our 10 year celebrations at both Kidwelly and Llanelli with wonderful buffets, both beautifully prepared by ‘HELDOR’ of Mynydd-y-Garreg. We were so grateful to Dorian and Helen, especially as they got up at 4.30 a.m. on both mornings to get everything ready and transport it to the 2 venues. We also had 2 celebration cakes which were very kindly donated by Mrs. Gill Hamilton. People are so good!

There were many invited guests as well as our usual service users and carers and we gave a history of the past ten years with photographs and videos of past sessions. We also showed clips of the 2 sessions that were televised (St. David’s Day and The War Years) on HENO and HTV News. It was an exhausting week, with so much to organise but worth every minute. We can’t really believe that 10 years have passed. Where has the time gone? Ty-Golau would not be possible without our wonderful volunteers. Thank you all. Janet Lewis. KAMPS first production, " Cinderella " performed at Neuadd Mynyddygarreg last month, proved to be a huge success and well deserving of the praise it received. Both performances attracted large audiences who appreciated all the hard work that had gone in to producing this show. All members involved deserve a huge ‘well done’ and a sincere thank you for entertaining us so magnificently. We very much look forward to the next production.

Ysgol Mynyddygareg News

Another busy term, snippets taken from the May Newsletter. The Foundation Phase pupils were learning about life on the farm, the different animals and the produce found. Highlight of the exercise was a visit to Garreg farm, and the huge milking parlour there. After this, the pupils created their own farms. Bridget joined the children in creating their school garden once again, and they plan to grow all sorts of vegetables. Key Stage 2 continued with the theme "Mods and Rockers", working on history, science, art and geography of the 60's. The biography of John Lennon was one example, along with a strong focus on Laura Ashley and her work, and her success in the business world. Mathematical work tackled problem solving and mental strategies, collecting data and presenting the results. The "Save our Sands" campaign was studied prior to a site visit and the children realized what a negative outcome could have resulted had the campaign not succeeded in saving our beautiful and popular area. The Newsletter congratulates all those who took part in Eisteddfod Mynyddygarreg. The Nursery and Reception class took part in Menter Cwm Gwendraeth's Annual Sports at Parc y Scarlets. Zyiah, Walter and Gwennan came 1st in the final race. Da iawn chi. Year 5 and 6 had a great time at Swansea University last week, having a tour of the Science and Engineering Department and receiving a talk on 3D printing. They had a very warm welcome there. The school has been invited to create a garden at Parc y Bocs. Year 3 pupils are helping with this project which they are sure to enjoy.
