U.S. Department of Agriculture Forest Service scientists, Federal resource managers, and stakeholders collaborated over a 2-year period to conduct a state-of-science climate change vulnerability assessment and develop adaptation options for Federal lands.     EPPO, 2008 Mini data sheet on Eutypella parasitica Added in 2005 – Deleted in 2008 Reasons for deletion: PRA concluded that the spread of the pest although slow, cannot be stopped and eradication is not possible. Damage caused by this pathogen was considered to be relatively minor. In 2008, it was therefore removed from the EPPO Alert List. Eutypella parasitica (canker of Acer pseudoplatanus) Why In July 2005, the NPPO of Slovenia informed the EPPO Secretariat that a new canker disease of maples (Acer spp.) caused by Eutypella parasitica was discovered near Ljubljana. So far, this fungus was only known to occur in North America where it can cause damage. The NPPO of Slovenia suggested that E. parasitica should be added to the EPPO Alert List. Where EPPO region: Austria (reported in 2007, under eradication), Croatia (reported in 2007 near the Slovenian border), Slovenia (found in 2005 near Ljubljana). North America: Canada (Ontario, Quebec), USA (Connecticut, Illinois, Indiana, Maine, Massachusetts, Michigan, Minnesota, New Hampshire, New York State, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, Vermont, Wisconsin). On which plants Acer spp. In North America, it occurs mainly on A. saccharum (sugar maple) and A. rubrum (red maple). It is occasionally found on A. negundo (box elder), A. pensylvanicum (striped maple), A. platanoides (Norway maple), A. pseudoplatanus (sycamore maple), A. saccharinum (silver maple), A. saccharum subsp. nigrum (black maple). In Slovenia, it was found on A. pseudoplatanus and A. campestre (field maple). Damage E. parasitica infects trees only through exposed wood tissue (via dead branches or wounds). Mycelium spreads around the infection site creating a perennial and slow growing canker (on average 1-2 cm per year).

Mycosphere 1(2), 183–188. In the present study, two species of Diatrypaceae were isolated from the wood of Acacia longifolia subsp. sophorae shrubs in the Coorong National Park, South Australia. Based on habitat, host, morphological observations and literature review, the isolates are described as the new species Diatrype brunneospora and Eutypella australiensis. These new taxa are fully described and illustrated and sequences of the internal transcribed spacer region of the nuclear ribosomal DNA are also provided. Nach aktuellen Erkenntnissen kommt E. parasitica im Stadtgebiet München (Bayern) bereits vor und stellt wegen seines niedrigen Schadpotenzials für Acer spp. kein erhebliches phytosanitäres Risiko für Deutschland und andere EU-Mitgliedstaaten dar. Der Pilz wird daher nicht als Quarantäneschadorganismus eingestuft, § 4a der PBVO ist demnach nicht anzuwenden. Voraussetzungen für Express- Ja, E. parasitica könnte ein Schadorganismus sein, der Pilz ist PRA erfüllt? weder in den Anhängen der RL 2000/29/EG noch bei der EPPO gelistet und wurde bisher im Dienstgebiet des meldenden PSD nur im Stadtgebiet München nachgewiesen.

Davidson & R.C. Lorenz is the causative agent of Eutypella canker of maple, a destructive disease of maples in Europe and North America. The fungus E. parasitica is known to cause wood stain and decay. However, it is not known how effectively it decomposes the wood of the most widespread maple species in Europe. Wood samples of Acer pseudoplatanus L., A. platanoides L., and A. campestre L. were exposed to four isolates of E. parasitica and nine other fungal species for comparison, according to the modified EN 113 standard. After 15 weeks of incubation, mass loss and microscopical analysis of samples showed evidence of colonization and different wood decay potentials among fungal species. A highly significant positive correlation was found between mass loss and moisture content for all fungal species.
