  • Press Conference Quotes from Matchroom Boxing Usa in Boston
PRESS CONFERENCE QUOTES FROM MATCHROOM BOXING USA IN BOSTON Eddie Hearn, President of Matchroom Boxing USA: “I am thrilled to be bringing this triple-header of World championship action to the TD Garden in Boston. “We want to take major fight nights to major cities across America that haven’t had the chance to witness this great sport in the flesh, that’s why we’re in Chicago on October 6 and then in Boston on October 20 – we’re taking this great sport to great cities in great arenas like the TD Garden with the best night of boxing the city has seen.” Billy Joe Saunders – Hertfordshire, England – 26 (12) – 0 – defending his WBO World Middleweight title against Demetrius Andrade “This is such a big fight. The two main men at Middleweight at the moment is GGG and Canelo – and neither of them want to fight me or Demetrius. There’s a lot of smoke and mist in the division right now, and when it clears up I will be the man standing there. “All jokes and trash talk aside, this is going to be a really good fight. Does anyone want to fight Demetrius? No. Does anyone want to fight me? No. We have to fight each other to prove who the number one guy is. Technically, we are the best two in the division, and the winner is going to be number one. I’m World champion, I’ve been more active, I’ve boxed the better opposition – but I have to beat this man. “David Lemieux is a bum, a bum – he’s not worth talking about and I don’t take any credit from beating him.

  • Amanda Serrano Looks to Avenge Only Career Blemish This Saturday Against Ela Nunez at Turning Stone–Watch Live on Gfl
AMANDA SERRANO LOOKS TO AVENGE ONLY CAREER BLEMISH THIS SATURDAY AGAINST ELA NUNEZ AT TURNING STONE–WATCH LIVE ON GFL CLICK TO ORDER THE FIGHT VERONA, NY (January 26, 2011)—This Saturday night at the beautiful Turning Stone Casino and Resort in Verona, New York, undefeated female featherweight, Amanda Serrano will look to “avenge” her only career blemish when she takes on Ela Nunez in a six round bout. The main event will feature a ten round heavyweight battle for the WBC Caribbean Heavyweight championship between former U.S. Olympian Jason “Big Six” Estrada and Franklin Lawrence. The fight card will be streamed all over the world LIVE on www.gofightlive.tv Serrano and Nunez fought to a toe to toe draw back on November 20, 2009 in Atlantic City. Serrano of Brooklyn, New York has a record of 7-0-1 with four knockouts, knows the first fight was an aberration and will look to not only win but emphatically on Saturday. “I took the first fight on short notice”, said Serrano. “I only knew about for a week. This fight will be different as I am training much harder and there will be no surprises.” Serrano was influenced by her sister, former two-time title challenger Cindy Serrano, who herself is 15-3-1. “I was in the gym all day watching her. I just wanted to fight and then I won the Golden Gloves. She is my best sparring partner and she always gives me hints to help me improve.” “I take this sport seriously and would someday want to be the face of woman’s boxing”, said the twenty-two year old Serrano.

President’s Message Hello Branch Members. Welcome to the Holidays. Dare I mention, just 23 days until our holiday party; 34 days until Hanukkah; 37 days until Christmas; and 38 days until Kwanzaa. Phew! Are we ready? As usual, I’m getting there, but I must admit I enjoy the frenzy, family, friends and fun that the holidays bring each year. Even with my responsibilities, when the holidays arrive, I remember, with gratitude, my many blessings. The season reminds me that I am more fortunate than many with a warm roof over my head; food in my pantry; friends who have my back; and the funds to live comfortably. In addition, I have family who value education, work hard for their economic security, and encourage promotion into leadership positions at work and in volunteer organizations. I’m never surprised that AAUW is an important organization in my life. The values I grew up with and embrace mirror the strategic goals of AAUW: Education, Economic Security and Leadership. Many of you know that my mother, Jean Turner, was a Cal graduate back in the 1940’s and the first in my family to join AAUW. She was a young mom looking for a worthy cause and an opportunity to have intelligent adult discussions with like-minded women. I believe that’s what AAUW represents for many of us. An organization which gives us a chance to support and enhance the lives of women and girls in our community while giving us a sense of purpose. We see our blessings in these values and understand the need to bring these blessings to all women and girls.
