  • Training Camp Almost Complete; a Confident and On-Weight Claressa
Training Camp Almost Complete; A Confident and On- Weight Claressa Shields Ready for Hannah Rankin DAZN Showdown on November 17 Women’s superstar and two-division world champion Claressa Shields is in Florida with trainer John David Jackson, finishing up preparations for her showdown with Glasgow, Scotland’s Hannahh Rankin on Saturday, November 17, at the Kansas Star Arena and Casino in Mulvane, Kansas. Shields (6-0, 2 KOs) will defend her IBF and WBA World Middleweight Championships, and be looking to add the vacant WBC title, against Rankin (5-2, 1 KO) in the 10-round co- featured bout to Salita Promotions stablemate Jarrell Miller’s heavyweight showdown against Romania’s Bogdan Dinu. Both fights, along with former world champion Brandon Rios taking on Canelo’s brother, Ramon Alvarez, in a super welterweight 10-rounder and former two-time world middleweight title challenger Gabriel Rosado going against once-beaten contender Luis Arias, will be broadcast live on DAZN. 23-year-old Shields, a former two-time Olympic Gold Medallist, has reignited interest in women’s boxing and become a ratings favorite for her nationally televised championship exploits. A proud native of Flint, Michigan, Shields mixes her brash pronouncements of greatness with a genuine and continued effort to inspire female athletes and render aid to members of her home community. Shields was originally scheduled to face WBC and WBO World Middleweight Champion Christina Hammer on November 17, but the bout was postponed after Hammer withdrew due to medical reasons. Did the change of opponents from Hammer to Rankin affect your training? I don’t train for my opponents, I just push to get the best out of me, physically and mentally.

  • Amanda Serrano Looks to Avenge Only Career Blemish This Saturday Against Ela Nunez at Turning Stone–Watch Live on Gfl
AMANDA SERRANO LOOKS TO AVENGE ONLY CAREER BLEMISH THIS SATURDAY AGAINST ELA NUNEZ AT TURNING STONE–WATCH LIVE ON GFL CLICK TO ORDER THE FIGHT VERONA, NY (January 26, 2011)—This Saturday night at the beautiful Turning Stone Casino and Resort in Verona, New York, undefeated female featherweight, Amanda Serrano will look to “avenge” her only career blemish when she takes on Ela Nunez in a six round bout. The main event will feature a ten round heavyweight battle for the WBC Caribbean Heavyweight championship between former U.S. Olympian Jason “Big Six” Estrada and Franklin Lawrence. The fight card will be streamed all over the world LIVE on www.gofightlive.tv Serrano and Nunez fought to a toe to toe draw back on November 20, 2009 in Atlantic City. Serrano of Brooklyn, New York has a record of 7-0-1 with four knockouts, knows the first fight was an aberration and will look to not only win but emphatically on Saturday. “I took the first fight on short notice”, said Serrano. “I only knew about for a week. This fight will be different as I am training much harder and there will be no surprises.” Serrano was influenced by her sister, former two-time title challenger Cindy Serrano, who herself is 15-3-1. “I was in the gym all day watching her. I just wanted to fight and then I won the Golden Gloves. She is my best sparring partner and she always gives me hints to help me improve.” “I take this sport seriously and would someday want to be the face of woman’s boxing”, said the twenty-two year old Serrano.

SPRING 2008 • ST. MICHAELS UNIVERSITY SCHOOL The Pillars of Leadership Five Views SMUS Alumni Weekend A Preview Focus on Alumni The Diplomats Creating tomorrow’s leaders, one grade at a time. At St. Michaels University School, we are educating the leaders of tomorrow. That means integrating principles of leadership into all levels of our curriculum. Starting in kindergarten, students at Junior School are learning the foundations of leadership through the Virtues Project. By their final year at Junior School, students are taking on active leadership roles in the school, reinforced by events such as the Grade 5 Leadership Assembly. In Middle School, students continue to develop leadership skills and character traits through programmes like the house system, student council, exloratory units and outdoor education. By the time they reach Senior School, our students are ready to take full advantage of the many lessons and opportunities that are available to them. At this level, principles of leadership have been actively incorporated into all aspects of the school – in classes, councils, the boarding programme and extracurricular activities. At the end of their time at SMUS, our students are prepared to take on further leadership roles and make their marks on the world. For more information about our leadership curriculum, contact our Admissions office at (250) 370-6170 or [email protected], or visit our website at www.smus.bc.ca. • Co-educational • Day School - Grades K-12 • Boarding - Grades 8-12 • ESL - Grades 8-10 • Financial assistance available Outstanding preparation for higher learning and for life. • Road Warrior Reis Finds Solace in Return to Rhode Island
Road warrior Reis finds solace in return to Rhode Island PROVIDENCE, R.I. (Feb. 8th, 2016) — Even with an imperfect record and maybe a few too many blemishes in recent years, Kali Reis wouldn’t change a thing. “I’d rather have the experience, because I’ve had the losses,” Reis said, “but I haven’t gotten beat. “I’ve learned a lot more from the losses than the wins.” Reis’ career is like that of many female boxers. Without financial backing or influence from major promoters, many of whom don’t see the value in developing female fighters without the promise of television dollars in return, most of them wind up having to fight their own way to the top. Such is the case for Reis (7-5-1, 3 KOs), a Providence, R.I., native, who parlayed early success on the local circuit into four world-title shots in four different countries over the past two years, among them a knockout win over Teresa Perozzi in November of 2014 in Bermuda to capture the then vacant International Boxing Association (IBA) Female Middleweight Title. Raised by a single parent, her mother, Patricia Baptista, the Native American Reis is a Seaconke Wampanoag who also descends from the Nipmuk and Cherokee tribes. The temptation of drugs and alcohol in her neighborhood led her down the wrong path early in life before she found her way to the gym at the age of 13, where she began training under the guidance of Peter Manfredo Sr. and Roland Estrada. Having fought everywhere from Costa Rica to Germany — not to mention a scheduled bout in New Zealand in April for yet another world title — Reis is the true definition of a boxing road warrior, but before she packs her bags two months now, she makes a rare appearance in her backyard Friday, Feb.
