#cincysocialceo Why It Matters

#cincysocialceo Why it matters:

Why does it matter if the leader in the corner office is engaged on social media? It’s a fair question. We think the answer is very clear.

Communications is one of the primary responsibilities of today’s CEO.

Social media has forever changed how people communicate – how they receive and consume information. This is true whether a customer, employee, shareholder, journalist or any audience that is critical to the success of the business.

CEOs are the keepers of the corporate brand. When critical decisions have to be made that could impact the value of the company, return on shareholder investment, continued employment, and much, much more, CEOs make the call. That’s why they get paid the big bucks.

Many of today’s CEOs get it; they have found a way that works for them to engage in social media, whether to listen, share or engage. Many CEOs are not quite there yet. To learn more about social CEO engagement read our “Framework for CEO Engagement in Social Media.”

#cincysocialceo Why it matters:

To conduct the survey, we used the Business Courier’s Courier 250 and 2014 Book of Lists to identify the top Cincinnati public and private companies, as well as the top companies in the categories of healthcare, education, banking and law.

These lists included 150 private companies (ranked by revenue), 25 public companies (ranked by revenue), 23 law firms (ranked by number of attorneys), 22 bank and bank holding companies (ranked by local deposits), 24 colleges and universities (ranked by total enrollment), and 18 healthcare companies (ranked by total expense). Some companies overlapped and appeared on two lists. This was taken into account when determining findings.

The final list included 262 CEOs of 259 companies – American Financial Group Inc., Signature Hardware have co-CEOs. Cohen, Todd, Kite & Sanford were removed from the list due to being lead by a management team. Forcht Bank, WesBanco and JP Morgan Chase were included in the Business Courier’s 250 List and 2014 Book of Lists, but excluded from this study due to not being headquartered in the Greater Cincinnati region.

Note: all data collected reflects current CEOs/top leaders during the time of survey research, not at the time of publication of the 2014 Courier 250, 2014 Book of Lists or this study. Some CEOs may no longer be in a leadership role. Cincinnati Companies (CEOs)
