In the 7 century, from Ao : Bay found evidence, the city merged with the Ban : Village Kingdom of Srivijaya. The ancient city was Chedi : Stupa or Pagoda divided into 3 towns: Viangsa, Khiri Rat Nikom Hat : Beach and Tha Thong. Site Suitability Evaluation for Ecotourism Using GIS & AHP: A Case Study of Surat Thani Province, Thailand January 2012 Khwanruthai BUNRUAMKAEW a Site Suitability Evaluation for Ecotourism Using GIS & AHP: A Case Study of Surat Thani Province, Thailand A Dissertation Submitted to the Graduate School of Life and Environmental Sciences, the University of Tsukuba in Partial Fulfillment of the Requirements for the Degree of Doctor of Philosophy in Science (Doctoral Program in Geoenvironmental Sciences) Khwanruthai BUNRUAMKAEW b ABSTRACT The main objective of this study is to identify and prioritize the potential ecotourism site in Surat Thani province, Thailand, using Geographic Information System (GIS) and Analytic Hierarchy Process (AHP). This work was assessed the potential suitable areas for ecotourism based on bio-physical characteristics of the land ecosystems and socio- economic data. These are landscape or naturalness (visibility, land use/cover), wildlife (reservation/protection, species diversity), topography (elevation, slope), accessibility (proximity to cultural sites, distance from roads) and community characteristics (settlement size). These criteria and factors were selected according to the professional expert‟s opinions. First, a resource inventory and a list of ecotourism criteria were developed using the AHP method. At the next stage GIS techniques were used to measure the ranking of different sites according to the set criteria and thus identify those with the „best‟ potential. Subsequently, the land suitability map for ecotourism was created, based on the linear combination of the criteria and factors with their respective weights. The degree of suitability of each factor was classified as highly suitable (S1), moderately suitable (S2), marginally suitable (S3) and not suitable (N) for ecotourism. -

Therefore, there is a need to find a way to prevent the disease. This research aimed to explore the important factors of den- gue fever, to study the factors affecting dengue hemorrhagic fever in Surat Thani Province, and to map the potential outbreak of dengue fever. Collecting patient information was done including, Rainfall, Digital Elevation Model (DEM), Land Use and Land Cover (LULC), Population Density, and Patients in Surat Thani Province, which was analyzed using data mining techniques involving analysis using 3 algorithms comprising Random Forest, J48, and Random Tree. The cor- rect result is Random Forest since the accuracy of the data is 96.7 percent fol- lowed by J48 with accuracy of 95.9 percent. The final sequence is Random Tree with accuracy of 93.5 percent. Then, using the information can be displayed through ArcGIS program to see the risk points that are compared to the risk areas that have been previously done. The results can be very risky in Mueang District, Kanchanadit District, and Don Sak District, corresponding to the information ob- tained from the Public Health Office and the risk map created from the patient information. -

1 GENE FLOW AMONG Aedes aegypti (L.) POPULATIONS IN THAILAND INTRODUCTION Dengue fever (DF) and dengue hemorrhagic fever (DHF) are the most common and important mosquito-borne viral diseases syndromes in the world. Epidemics of this disease commonly occur throughout the warm tropical and subtropical regions. Over 30 million cases are 10.14457/KU.the.2006.708reported and tens of thousands die from this disease annua lly. During the last two decades, เมื่อexplos iv05/10/2564e dengue outbreaks in Thailan d19:25:39 have occurred periodically. In the last decade, the number of dengue cases in Thailand has shown a steady increase and disease transmission remains prevalent all over the country. Each year, 50,000 to 200,000 dengue cases are reported in the country. No commercially available vaccine is yet available for the prevention of dengue infection and there are no specific antiviral drugs for treatments. Thus, the control of the mosquito vectors remains the most important method to prevent dengue virus transmission and averting dengue epidemics. A significant growth in the human population, demographic movement from rural to more crowded urban areas and an increase in tourism-based facilities are seen as major contributors to an increasing trend in dengue incidence. The disease is caused by four dengue virus subtypes (1-4), belonging in the genus Flavivirus. The viruses are maintained in a natural cycle that involves humans and susceptible Aedine vector mosquitoes. Aedes aegypti (L.), a predominately indoor, human-biting mosquito, is the primary vector worldwide and is a common species throughout Thailand. Aedes aegypti (L.) is considered to be a polytypic species worldwide because of various morphological, physiological and geographical variations seen (Craig and Van de Hey, 1962; Gouck, 1972; McClelland, 1974; Trpis and Hausermann, 1975; Leahy et al.,1978; Tabachnick et al.,1979; Tabachnick and Powell,1979; Trpis et al.,1995). -

The archaeological site of P’ong Tuk, located in Kanchanaburi Province, west-central Thailand, was subject to field investigations by George Coedes in 1927 and H. G. Quaritch Wales in 1935. Both investigations uncovered sub- stantial material remains, including architectural and mortuary features and ritual objects, used to help define an early Buddhist “Dvaravati” cultural expression in the region of central Thailand. These early investigations, however, while regularly cited in the scholarly literature, were brief and minimally reported. The present study undertakes a reevaluation of the Coedes and Quaritch Wales data in light of new concepts and comparative evidence for the Dvaravati culture, as well as an integration of the published material with newly available information from Quaritch Wales’ field notes, and from a field reconnaissance of P’ong Tuk in 2008. -

A former capital of the Srivijaya Empire, the province covers an area of approximately 12,891 square kilometers. Surat Thani Province borders the Gulf of Thailand to the north and east, Chumphon Province to the north, Nakhon Si Thammarat and Krabi Provinces to the south, Phang-Nga and Ranong Provinces to the west and Nakhon Si Thammarat Province to the east.
