Processional (blue) 1982 Hymnal 412 Earth and All Stars Earth and All Stars Opening Acclamation Presider: Blessed be God: Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. People: And blessed be God’s kingdom, now and for ever. Amen. The Presider says Almighty God, to you all hearts are open, all desires known, and from you no secrets are hid: Cleanse the thoughts of our hearts by the inspiration of your Holy Spirit, that we may perfectly love you, and worthily magnify your holy Name; through Christ our Lord. Amen. Benedictus es (Rutter setting) (blue) 1982 Hymnal S-236 Collect of the Day Presider: The Lord be with you. People: And also with you. Presider: Let us pray: Most high, omnipotent, good Lord, grant your people grace to renounce gladly the vanities of this world; that, following the way of blessed Francis, we may for love of you delight in your whole creation with perfectness of joy; through Jesus Christ our Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever. Amen. First Reading Jeremiah 22:13-16 Woe to him who builds his house by unrighteousness, and his upper rooms by injustice; who makes his neighbours work for nothing, and does not give them their wages; who says, ‘I will build myself a spacious house with large upper rooms’, and who cuts out windows for it, panelling it with cedar, and painting it with vermilion. Are you 3 a king because you compete in cedar? Did not your father eat and drink and do justice and righteousness? Then it was well with him. He judged the cause of the poor and needy; then it was well. Is not this to know me? says the LORD. Reader: The Word of the Lord. People: Thanks be to God. Psalm 148:7-14 Laudate Dominum Thomas Norris 1. 2. 3. 4. 4 Second Reading Galatians 6:14-18 May I never boast of anything except the cross of our Lord Jesus Christ, by which the world has been crucified to me, and I to the world. For neither circumcision nor uncircumcision is anything; but a new creation is everything! As for those who will follow this rule-- peace be upon them, and mercy, and upon the Israel of God. From now on, let no one make trouble for me; for I carry the marks of Jesus branded on my body. May the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with your spirit, brothers and sisters. Amen. Reader: The Word of the Lord. People: Thanks be to God. Please stand for the sequence hymn and the reading from the Gospel. Sequence Hymn (blue) 1982 Hymnal 9 Not Here for High and Holy Things Morning Song Gospel Reading Matthew 11:25-30 Reader: The Holy Gospel of Our Lord Jesus Christ according to Matthew. People: Glory to you, Lord Christ. Jesus said, "I thank you, Father, Lord of heaven and earth, because you have hidden these things from the wise and the intelligent and have revealed them to infants; yes, Father, for such was your gracious will. All things have been handed over to me by my Father; and no one knows the Son except the Father, and no one knows the Father except the Son and anyone to whom the Son chooses to reveal him. "Come to me, all you that are weary and are carrying heavy burdens, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you, and learn from me; for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light." Reader: The Gospel of the Lord. People: Praise to you, Lord Christ. Sermon The Rev. C. Davies Reed 5 Nicene Creed (red) Book of Common Prayer, 1979, p. 358 We believe in one God, the Father, the Almighty, maker of heaven and earth, of all that is, seen and unseen. We believe in one Lord, Jesus Christ, the only Son of God, eternally begotten of the Father, God from God, Light from Light, true God from true God, begotten, not made, of one Being with the Father. Through him all things were made. For us and for our salvation he came down from heaven: by the power of the Holy Spirit he became incarnate from the Virgin Mary, and was made man. For our sake he was crucified under Pontius Pilate; he suffered death and was buried. On the third day he rose again in accordance with the Scriptures; he ascended into heaven and is seated at the right hand of the Father. He will come again in glory to judge the living and the dead, and his kingdom will have no end. We believe in the Holy Spirit, the Lord, the giver of life, who proceeds from the Father and the Son. With the Father and the Son he is worshiped and glorified. He has spoken through the Prophets. We believe in one holy catholic and apostolic Church. We acknowledge one baptism for the forgiveness of sins. We look for the resurrection of the dead, and the life of the world to come. Amen. Prayers of the People (red) Book of Common Prayer, p. 361 The Leader and People pray responsively In peace, we pray to you, Lord God. We pray for all people in their daily life and work; For our families, friends, and neighbors, and for those who are alone. We pray for this community, the nation, and the world; For all who work for justice, freedom, and peace. We pray for our projects in service to others, and especially for a favorable harvest season in our garden. For the just and proper use of your creation; For the victims of hunger, fear, injustice, and oppression. In our church family we pray for Dina, Thomas, Becky, Ivan, Mel, Eli, Ben, Joseph, Shannon, Jack, Carol, Bill, John, Lorraine, Phin, the Stanfield family, Gretchen, Jake, Fran, Ann, Frances, Bev, James, Jean, 6 Tom, Glen, Patty, Lori, Matt, Tyler, Donna, Sheila, and Sara. We pray for all who are in danger, sorrow, or any kind of trouble. For those who minister to the sick, the friendless, and the needy. In the Anglican Cycle of Prayer we pray for The Episcopal Church, and in the Diocesan Cycle of Prayer we pray for St. Francis In-The- Fields, Zionsville, and St. Peter’s, Lebanon. We pray for the peace and unity of the Church of God; For all who proclaim the Gospel, and all who seek the Truth. We pray for Katharine, our Presiding Bishop; Cate, our Bishop; Father Davies, our Rector; the active and the retired clergy of our diocese; for Ruben, Bishop of Bor; for Mauricio, Bishop of Brasilia and for all bishops, priests, and deacons. For all who serve God in God’s Church. We pray for those who serve in the military, especially Christopher, Julian, Matt, Brian, Eddie, and Kieran. And for the special needs and concerns of this congregation. Hear us, Lord; For your mercy is great. We thank you, Lord, for all the blessings of this life. We pray in thanksgiving for those having birthdays this week: Jeff Berger, Amie Peele Carter, Beth Ganci, Rick Graef, Gretchen Guiney, Geoff Hoops, Cole Fortune Hunter, Katie Jones, and Erick Larsen. We will exalt you, O God our King; And praise your Name for ever and ever. We pray for the repose of the soul of Steve Greger, Gene Eib, and all who have died, that they may have a place in your eternal kingdom. Lord, let your loving-kindness be upon them; Who put their trust in you. The Presider concludes, saying Almighty God, to whom our needs are known before we ask: Help us to ask only what accords with your will; and those good things which we dare not, or in our blindness cannot ask, grand us for the sake of your Son Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen. Confession and Absolution The Presider says Let us confess our sins against God and our neighbor. Silence may be kept. 7 Presider and People: Most merciful God, we confess that we have sinned against you in thought, word, and deed, by what we have done, and by what we have left undone. We have not loved you with our whole heart; we have not loved our neighbors as ourselves.
