Every very four years, Special Olympics conducts a USA Summer Games that includes athletes from all 52 US Programs. has been selected as host of the 2014 Special Olympics USA Games, the Games of Welcome and Acceptance. Competitions will be offered in both traditional and Unified play, bringing together the community to support and compete side by side with our athletes, in what expects to be the most inclusive Games in Special Olympics history. Delaware will have four representatives participating in the Law Enforcement Torch Run Final Leg: Det. Danielle Martin, Final Leg Runner; Tony Bowe, SODE athlete and Final Leg Runner; Chip Simpson, Support Team Member and Danny Hall, Team Leader.

WAWA is the presenting sponsor of Team Delaware, who will be proudly represented by more than 90 SODE athletes, Unified Partners and coaches from around the state. Team Delaware is competing in aquatics, , , bocce, , flag football, , powerlifting, soccer, sprint , , and track and field.

For the first time, Special Olympics Delaware will be represented by a school-based team at a national/ world games when Middletown High School takes the pitch in the 5 vs. 5 Unified soccer tournament. In addition, three representatives of SODE Project UNIFY’s Youth Activation Committee will also participate in a Youth Summit at the Games. They will join more than 100 student leaders from across the country to share ideas and information on how sports can be a platform for a social justice movement and create positive change in their schools and communities. THE COUNTDOWN HAS BEGUN! Our Special Olympics athletes have been training hard, practicing with their teammates, and getting ready to do their very best - so help cheer them on! GO TEAM DELAWARE!

Sporting venues located in Mercer County, N.J., will be within easy driving distance from Delaware and affords each of us the opportunity to witness a Special Olympics USA Games. - Wish Team Delaware “good luck” and join a special send-off celebration on Saturday, June 14 at the Bob Carpenter Center in Newark. An informal program will take place around 12 noon followed by the official departure at 1 p.m. Players will arrive at 11:30am to mingle with well-wishers. Bring friends and family! - Because the sports venues are spread out around the Mercer County, New Jersey area, family members and spectators are encouraged to plan their travel ahead of time. Consider driving your own vehicle or sharing rides to maximize time flexibility and convenience while at the Games. - Make sure to visit the USA Games website to get directions for each venue and map out your destination before you travel.
