READERS COMMENT Voice of the people Books for flood victims What an awesome experience it is for elementary students to have books at their fingertips! Imagine if that expe- rience is taken away. Today, that is the reality for students at Glen Oak Park Elementary in Baton Rouge. Recent flooding in Louisiana destroyed all books in the school’s library. The librarian at Glen Oaks Elementary School, Trey Veazey, has roots here in Columbus. The Commer- cial Dispatch carried a story on him Aug. 28. The sixth grade students at Heri- tage Academy Elementary School want to help. Students, or Kids for Kids, are heading up a drive to “Flood the Library with Books” at Glen Oak Park Elementary. Would you help, too? The book drive will run from Tues- day, Sept. 6, to Tuesday, Sept. 13. Gen- tly used or new books can be dropped off at the office of Heritage Elementary School, 625 Magnolia Lane. Monetary donations will also be appreciated. Checks can be made out to Heritage Academy with the desig- nation of Louisiana Book Drive. All of the money will go to Glen Oaks Park Elementary School.
