Greensboro, N.C. LAST SEASON SATURDAY’S FINALS • The 2020 outdoor track & field season was canceled amid the STREAMED LIVE ON FLOTRACK rise and spread of the COVID-19 pandemic; as such, neither the MEAC Outdoor Track & Field Championships nor the NCAA Out- door Track & Field Championships were held. 2021 MEAC CHAMPIONSHIPS • The 2021 MEAC Outdoor Track & Field Championships are sched- uled to take place this weekend at North Carolina A&T State Uni- versity’s Irwin Belk Track in Greensboro, N.C. Nine of the MEAC’s 11 teams are currently slated to compete for the conference titles; the meets was last held in 2019, when North Carolina A&T State swept the men’s and women’s titles. NCAT has won the last three MEAC outdoor men’s titles and two of the last three women’s titles. LAST TIME OUT AGGIES RELAY SQUAD NCAA CHAMPS • North Carolina A&T State’s 4x400-meter relay squad brought home NCAA gold back in March, as the quartet of Elijah Young, Daniel Stokes, Randolph Ross and Trevor Stewart won the 4x400 at the NCAA Indoor Championships on March 13, turning in a 3:03.16 -- the fifth-fastest time in NCAA history -- beating the likes of Ken- tucky and Tennessee in their heat race. The relay team’s success has carried over to the outdoor season, as on March 27 at the Tex- as Relays, they turned in the top time in the world so far this season in the event at 3:00.23.     NEW STUDENT ORIENTATION 2020 MD1 June 29 – 30 Office of Admissions and Student Affairs NEW STUDENT ORIENTATION 2020 MD1 Dear Morehouse School of Medicine Student: Our school is graced by an overwhelming number of exceptionally well-qualified applicants. You are in good company, and I am delighted to help you begin your journey into the remark- able profession of medicine. Professional school study is a time of exploration and immersion in your desired specialty. It is a time for the free exchange of ideas, acquisition of new skills, and creation of knowledge. It is a time when faculty will change from being your teachers to being mentors and colleagues. Morehouse School of Medicine was founded in 1975 as the Medical Education Program at Morehouse College. In 1981, Morehouse School of Medicine became an independently chartered institution and the first established at a Historically Black College and University in the 20th century. Our focus on primary care and addressing the needs of the underserved is critical to improving overall health care. During the course of my career, I have had the privilege to work in several other major health sciences centers, and I believe our faculty is second to none. Our faculty and staff are commit- ted to exceptional teaching, research, and patient care. We will never lose sight of the respon- sibility to guide, support, and teach. Morehouse School of Medicine has graduated many med- ical students over the years, and we remain the leading educator of primary care physicians in the United States. Our medical school is inextricably linked to our principal teaching hospital, Grady Memorial Hospital, and several affiliates: The Atlanta VA, WellStar Atlanta Medical Center, and Chil- dren’s Healthcare of Atlanta.

    QUALITY EDUCATION FOR M INORITIES (QEM) NETWORK The Critical Role of Historically Black Colleges and Universities in the Postsecondary Computing Education Landscape Dr. Ivory Toldson, Ph.D., President & CEO Between 2003 and 2013 the number of Black professionals holding jobs in Computer Science and Mathematics (CSM) increased from 178,440 to 307,509. • Review the: • Landscape of HBCUs and computer science, • Graduate productivity, and • Potential alliances with CISE core programs. Objectives 2 For the number of Black Computer Science professionals to be representative of the population we need to develop 59,553 more Black male and 122,887 more Black female Computer Science professionals. 3 HBCUs Computer Science Productivity • Of 101 HBCUs, that qualify for federal support, 11 are among the top 100 postsecondary institutions for graduating Black students in CSM. • By contrast, of the 115 institutions of higher education with Carnegie Classification of R1 (Highest Research Activity) only 8 are in the top 100 for graduating Black students in CSM. • Enrollment at the RI institutions is more than 3 million and composite enrollment of the 100 HBCUs is less than 300,000. • 971 Black students received CSM degrees from HBCUs in 2014 and 812 Black students received CSM degrees from RI institutions. 4 HBCUs Conferring Computer Science (CS) Degrees • 59 of the 86 accredited 4-year HBCUs conferred Bachelors and/or Masters degrees in Computer Science in 2012/13 (Texas Southern University only conferred Masters degrees) • 16 public HBCUs (47%) and 3 private HBCUs (12%) has accreditation from Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology (ABET) 5 Computer Science Degrees Conferred on Black Students At HBCUs Public: • Bachelors degrees (81%; N=311) • Masters degrees (47%; N=129) Private • Bachelors degrees (91%; N=144) • Masters degrees (70%; N=7) 6 Top-10 HBCUs for graduating Black CS Students: 1.
