Thereafter the person will be clinically assessed by a doctor and laboratory testing for COVID-19 will subsequently be done if indicated. • Laboratory testing of persons sent by external doctors for COVID-19 laboratory testing at a Netcare Group facility Individuals who have been sent to a Netcare Group facility for COVID-19 laboratory testing by a doctor who is not practising at the Netcare Group facility will not be allowed access to the laboratories inside the Netcare facility, unless the person requires medical assistance. This brochure which contains a list of Ampath, Lancet and Pathcare laboratories will be made available to individuals not needing medical assistance, to guide them as to where they can have the testing done. In the case of the person needing medical assistance, they will be directed to the emergency department. No person with COVID-19 risk will be allowed into a Netcare facility for laboratory testing without having consulted a doctor first. • Risk assessment and screening of all persons wanting to enter a Netcare Group facility Visitors, staff, external service providers, doctors and other healthcare providers are being risk assessed at established points outside of Netcare Group hospitals, primary care centres and mental health facilities, prior to them entering the facility. -

Modelling socio-economic dynamics in a working class desegregation area in post-industrial, post-Apartheid South Africa – the case of Danville- Elandspoort, Pretoria By Steve Keith Abbey Submitted in partial fulfilment of the requirements for the degree of Masters of Science (Geography) Faculty of Natural & Agricultural Science University of Pretoria July 2007 Modelling socio-economic dynamics in a working class desegregation area in post-industrial, post-Apartheid South Africa – the case of Danville- Elandspoort, Pretoria Student: Steve Abbey Supervisor: Professor Andre Horn Department: Geography, Geoinformatics and Meteorology, University of Pretoria Degree: Master of Science (Geography) SUMMARY Within post-Apartheid research there is little to no research into poor historically White areas which are experiencing rapid rates of desegregation. It is in these cases a researcher could pose a question to whether or not Apartheid’s race-class divisions are still prevalent. A further gap in South African literature is a lack of a model on which to base socio-economic changes in a situation of post-Apartheid and post-industrial trends. This study addresses both of these short fallings of current academic literature. This paper explores Socio Economic Transformation within a lower income urban area of Pretoria, South Africa. The area, which was previously White only under Apartheid legislation, has been experiencing changes due to factors including post- Apartheid legislation and post-industrialism. Desegregation and a decline in industry have created complicated racial and social patterns within a merging community. Two major trends within the study area include an influx of an upwardly mobile Black population and secondly a downward economic movement of White individuals. -

RESIDENTIAL BURGLARY IN THE MACRO AND MESO-ENVIRONMENT Given the motivation of an individual to commit an offence, the actual commission of an offence is the end result of a multi-staged decision process which seeks out and identifies, within the general environment, a target or victim positioned in time and space. - Brantingham and Brantingham (1984:337) 4.1 INTRODUCTION Although the main focus of this study was to investigate the occurrence of residential burglary in the micro-environment. it was deemed necessary to provide an overview of the spatial patterns of residential burglary at a macro and meso-level (the general environment). For the purpose of this study, residential burglary at a macro-level referred to the Greater Pretoria area, and how it compared with other cities and the country as a whole. whereas the meso-level referred to the police station areas, with specific reference to the two case study areas, in the Greater Pretoria area. The research on burglary patterns at the meso-level was directed by the conceptual framework (see par.2.6), and to answer to the research expectations as formulated in Paragraph 2.7, namely that it is expected that the following factors in the meso-environment will increase the risk for burglary: • Neighbourhoods perceived as more affluent. • Neighbourhoods that have good escape routes. • Neighbourhoods where free (unrestricted) movement of people occur. • Neighbourhoods that attract strangers, non-resident in the area. Burglary patterns at the macro-level, as explained in the following section, only provided an orientation to the study and therefore no research expectations were formulated in this regard . -
