  • Britsh Group Terravision Renovates the Perilous Balcony of Piazzale Winston Churchill in Villa Borghese
BRITSH GROUP TERRAVISION RENOVATES THE PERILOUS BALCONY OF PIAZZALE WINSTON CHURCHILL IN VILLA BORGHESE Unveiling ceremony taking place on Friday December 12 at 11:30 in the presence of the British Ambassador in Rome. To commemorate the 140th anniversary of the birth of Sir Winston Churchill (Woodstock, November 30th 1874 - London, January 24th 1965), Terravision Group has restored the historic balcony in the Roman piazza named after the English statesman and Nobel Prize winner, located in front of the British School at Rome in Villa Borghese. After collapsing in 2010 and having been left in total abandonment, the balcony in Piazzale Winston Churchill had been covered with tarps, wooden boards and scaffolding tubes. Left in these conditions for years, it had become a symbol of neglect and decay in Rome in addition to being a safety hazard for pedestrians and drivers. The balcony’s parapet, artistically created in travertine in 1911 for the fiftieth anniversary of the Unification of Italy, delineates the panoramic view offered from the balcony situated between the Faculty of Architecture and the National Gallery of Modern Art - a passageway constantly full of university students and patrons of the nearby international cultural institutes. The British Group Terravision is the European leader in airport transfers, offering shuttle services connecting Europe’s main airports to their respective city centres. The group is present in 40 airports across seven European countries, transports 5 million passengers annually, employs 400 people and, in 2013, generated a turnover of 35 million Euro. In Italy, Terravision, together with Assolowcost, has created an innovative tourism project called “Thaz Italia” spanning across Italy’s historic town centres.

  • 10 Years of .Eu!
10 years of .eu! This week .eu, the EU's internet address, turns ten years old. Since 7 April 2006 .eu has provided a unique European domain for people and organisations in the European Union. At the end of 2015 .eu was the eleventh largest top level domain in the world, with almost 4 million registrants. Compared to the largest country extensions – .de, .cn, .uk, .nl and .ru – the .eu domain ranks sixth in the world. Top 10 countries with the most .eu registrations. .eu is catching up both with the top level domains that have existed since the late nineties, such as .com, .info, .net and .org and is competing with new top-level domains introduced in 2014 such as .guru, .expert, .book or .london. .eu in the Digital Single Market Over the past decade, the .eu top-level domain has contributed to the development of the digital economy and achieving a European Digital Single Market. A growing number of Europe-focused companies boost their online presence with a .eu domain name. A .eu website tells customers that the brand concerns a legal entity in the European Union, Iceland, Liechtenstein or Norway and, as such, is subject to the trading and consumer laws of these countries. Having a .eu extension also makes it easier for businesses to grow across borders, to address the needs of customers in other countries, which is the very essence of having a single market. The .eu domain name is also one of the safest domain name extensions, as the registry offers a Domain Name System Security Extension solution.

AMARNA ROYAL TOMBS PROJECT VALLEY OF THE KINGS Occasional Paper No. 3 THE DECORATED NORTH WALL IN THE TOMB OF TUTANKHAMUN (KV 62) (THE BURIAL OF NEFERTITI? II) By Nicholas Reeves, FSA With A Review of the Geophysical Data By George Ballard, FRICS THE DECORATED NORTH WALL IN THE TOMB OF TUTANKHAMUN (KV 62) (THE BURIAL OF NEFERTITI? II) ABSTRACT This paper revisits an earlier discussion, The Burial of Nefertiti? (ARTP Occasional Paper No. 1), to consider in greater detail the painted north wall in the Burial Chamber (room J) of Tutankhamun’s tomb (KV 62). The changes imposed upon this wall’s three separate scenes are here identified and analysed, and the conclusions found to support the view that KV 62 – architecturally the sepulchre of a queen – had been both intended and employed for the burial of Nefertiti in her capacity as Akhenaten’s heir, Smenkhkare-djeserkheperu. The manner in which this tomb’s outer chambers were adapted and pressed into service for Tutankhamun’s use a decade later – leaving its original occupant in place and undisturbed – is clearly established. In a supplement to this study, George Ballard – a leading authority on the use of radar and other remote-sensing technologies in the investigation of historic buildings and structures – provides an independent review of the principal geophysical investigations carried out within and around KV 62 since 2015. Contrary to earlier assessments, Ballard is able to conclude that the data collected is both broadly consistent and essentially in line with archaeological indicators and expectations. Nicholas Reeves, BA PhD FSA, is an archaeologist and Egyptologist, Director of the Amarna Royal Tombs Project, Valley of the Kings, and a senior associate of the University of Arizona Egyptian Expedition.
