The mission statement is developed through a process suited to the nature and culture of the institution and is adopted by the governing board. 2. The institution’s academic programs, student support services, and enrollment profile are consistent with its stated mission. 3. The institution’s planning and budgeting priorities align with and support the mission. (This sub-component may be addressed by reference to the response to Criterion 5.C.1.) Argument The University of Nebraska-Lincoln (UNL), a public, research-intensive, land-grant university, is the flagship campus of the four-campus University of Nebraska (NU) system (UNL, University of Nebraska at Kearney, University of Nebraska Medical Center, University of Nebraska at Omaha). The university president oversees the NU system, which is governed by an elected Board of Regents, whose powers are defined in Nebraska state statutes. The regents are charged with developing and approving the mission statements for each campus, including UNL, and ensuring that the mission aligns with UNL’s legacy as a public land-grant university. 1.A.1. UNL’s mission statement was developed in consultation with university faculty, staff, students and stakeholders and approved by the Board of Regents in May 1991.

One year to go Construction of Lincoln’s Pinnacle Bank Arena — the future home to Husker men’s and women’s bas- ketball — is a little more than one year away from a September 2013 completion deadline. During an Aug. 17 media tour of the arena, Bob Caldwell of Hampton Construction reported that construction is slightly ahead of schedule and on budget. This composite image shows work inside the $179 million project. Workers started to move roof trusses (top right) into place earlier this month. This image shows how seating will be in a horseshoe configuration with the open end to the north (left). The arena will seat nearly 16,000.
