A view of the city of Valladolid with the Pisuerga river II. Motivation/rationale for holding the IRS in Valladolid Scientific Interest In the last decades, Spain has experienced a great growth comparatively to other countries in Europe and in the world, not only in the social and political aspects but also in the scientific research. Certainly Spain has a medium position in the world but it potential increases day by day. The research in Atmospheric Sciences has not a long tradition in our country, but precisely, its atmospheric conditions and geographical location makes it one of the best places for atmospheric studies, in topics as radiation, aerosols, etc…. , being a special region in Europe to analyse the impact of climate change. Hosting the IRS’2016 for the first time in Spain would produce an extraordinary benefit for all the Spanish scientific community, and particularly for those groups working in the atmospheric, meteorological and optics research fields.

  • Universitas Castellae STUDENT GUIDE to STUDYING IN
Universitas Castellae STUDENT GUIDE TO STUDYING IN VALLADOLID OVERVIEW Why Study in Spain? Studying abroad is among the very best ways to accomplish your personal and professional goals. To master a language such as Spanish, an extended stay in the “target culture” is highly recommended. For Semester Programs at Universitas Castellae in Valladolid, three years of high-school Spanish or one year of university-level Spanish, a 2.5 or better grade-point average (on a 4-point scale) are required. For Universitas Intensive Programs, the requirement is Spanish 101 or the equivalent. Should I study in Spain if my Spanish is not currently at a high level? The quality of your experience in Spain will be enriched if you have some command of the language. Certainly you will find that Spanish people will often support you when you make an effort to speak. When you get back to your home country, you will be much more fluent in Spanish than you were before. PLANNING TO STUDY IN VALLADOLID How do I apply for study abroad in Valladolid? -Complete the application form with a statement of purpose, personal and background information, and two reference letters. -Sign the financial agreement document in the application, which authorizes the college or university accounting office to charge the deposit, or simply submit a deposit at Universitas Castellae’s bank account. The Spanish consortium led by Talgo, Renfe, Adif and OHL has been awarded the Very High-Speed Rail Saudi Arabia mega-contract ••• This award consolidates Talgo ’s worldwide position in the very high- speed rail market. Madrid, October 26, 2011 .- A Spanish consortium of eleven companies has been awarded a $9 billion turn-key very high-speed rail project to connect the Saudi Arabian Cities of Medina and Mecca. Such award confirms that Talgo is not only a company with a successful line of products that are sold very well in its domestic market, but also that its state-of-the-art designs are internationally acclaimed. Talgo ’s expansion in the international market started in 1992 with sales in Germany, followed by sales in the USA in 1994. From 2007 to 2010 Talgo was also awarded major contracts in Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, USA and Russia. These latest developments have consolidated Talgo ’s commitment to be a worldwide rail manufacturer. In 2010, 83% of the new contracts awarded to Talgo came from customers located outside of Spain. According to Chairman Carlos de Palacio, “The award of this major contract is a milestone for the Spanish rail industry and rail technology and allows Talgo to fulfill its internationalization strategy.

Serving as the gateway to Spain’s lucrative Atlantic Empire for over two centuries, the city fashioned itself as an imperial capital, and natural successor to ancient Rome. Despite never serving as the official capital to the Spanish Habsburgs, civic authorities in Seville nonetheless expressed their city’s wealth and nobility through an excess of laudatory histories, artwork, architectural renovations, and regional patron saints. This dissertation first contextualizes Seville’s prominence by exploring how Phillip II’s refusal to establish a permanent capital in Madrid until 1561 promoted competition between many cities in Castile, all of which saw themselves as potential contenders for the future imperial court. As Spain moved into Atlantic territories, this competition helped fashion the urban organizational strategy for colonial settlement in the New World. As Seville was the most important city in Spain during the early modern period, the city greatly influenced the conceptualization and development of Spanish-American cities between the late sixteenth to the early eighteenth centuries.

  • Sepharad Spain
ELITE RECOMMENDS ANCIENT SYNAGOGUE / CÓRDOBA SEPHARAD SPAIN A JOURNEY THROUGH SPAIN’S JEWISH HERITAGE The Jewish community in Spain has a long and rich history that stretches back some 2,000 years to Roman times when Jews left Jerusalem and dispersed throughout the world. One of the largest contingents of Jews settled in the land of Sepharad (or Sefarad) as Spain was called in Hebrew language. For centuries, this Sephardic community thrived through times of peace and prosperity. It also endured periods of oppression and prosecution. Today, the vibrant Jewish heritage of the Iberian Peninsula has been rediscovered. Throughout Spain, a revival is underway of Sephardic neighborhoods, medieval synagogues and Jewish cultural events. The confluence of Jewish, Muslim and Christian cultures in this region provides a fascinating journey into the past. This guide will introduce you to the Spanish Jewish sites of prominent cities like Barcelona, Girona, Seville, Jaen, Córdoba, Toledo, Segovia, Cáceres, Ávila, León, Oviedo and Palma. Even beyond the existing cities notable for their Jewish heritage, discoveries of Jewish importance in Spain are still being made to this day, such as in Lorca, where a well-preserved synagogue—visible at the Lorca Parador hotel—is being excavated, and pieces of more than 50 rare glass synagogue oil lamps have been unearthed. Now more than ever, these cities of Sephardic Spain are welcoming guests to explore their vibrant architecture, art, grand hotels and festivals, as well as some of most distinctive fine food and wine in the world. For more information about the country’s rich Jewish heritage, visit www.spain.info.
