A Social and Biographical History of British and Irish Field-bryologists is also available on-line at http://britishbryologicalsociety.org.uk/ Botanical career Davies’s most important publication is Welsh Botanology (1813), the first part of which is the first detailed flora of a Welsh county (Anglesey), listing 166 mosses and 28 liverworts for Anglesey. Davies was in the bryological vanguard of contemporary botanists, and seems to have taken interest in bryophytes from about 1790 onwards. He found, for example, the moss Glyphomitrium daviesii (which is named after him) at Carreg Onnan and Llanfihangel Dinsylwi near Bwrdd Arthur in 1790 and on Snowdon a few years later. Other mosses he found include Acaulon muticum from Tywyn Aberffraw, Antitrichia curtipendula on Red Hill, Beaumaris (Anglesey), Hennediella heimii at Penmon on Anglesey, Pterygoneurum ovatum near Llangoed and Friary and Lleiniog on Anglesey, Scleropodium tourettii at Llansadwrn, as well as the liverworts Riccia canaliculata at Llyn Traffwll on Anglesey, and Targionia hypophylla at Tyfry, Rhoscefnhir, Anglesey. Davies was a friend of Thomas Pennant (1726-1798), corresponding with him at least as early as his time at Lan-faes and Penmon in the later 1760s and early 1770s, and toured the Isle of Man with him in 1774, returning there alone the following year. He provided information about the natural history of North Wales for publications by Pennant, as well as William Hudson’s Flora Anglica (2nd edition, 1788), Smith and Sowerby’s English Botany (1790-1814), and Turner and Dillwyn’s The Botanist’s Guide through England and Wales (1805).

This paper will look specifically at Candidate Sites Assessment Update. It will explain the background which will help to identify the issues, objectives, options and the preferred strategy for the Preferred Strategy document, which is the first draft of the Plan. The paper will be developed as the preparation of the Deposit Plan (which will be the full Plan) proceeds and a final version will be published at the Deposit stage. The Preferred Strategy document is the first statutory stage of the Joint Local Development Plan (JLDP). The JLDP shapes the future growth of communities in the Joint Local Development Plan Area and will set out the policies and land allocations against which planning applications will be assessed. The Preferred Strategy version of the Plan is also an important opportunity to comment on the strategies that will shape the final Deposit Plan. The Deposit Plan is the second statutory stage of the plan and will allow a further period of formal public consultation. The Deposit Plan will be submitted to the Welsh Government, which will appoint an independent inspector to assess the soundness of the Plan in the Examination in Public. If the inspector considers the Plan to be sound it will be recommended for adoption.

Councils’ Response In respect of the policies pertaining to the natural and built environment, the Councils conisder that this is only an issue for policies PS16 and AT4 and are addressed under Action Points S6/PG5 and S6/PG10 respectively. Action Point S6/PG2 – Paragraph 7.5.2 Present Matters Arising Change to correct the last sentance of paragraph 7.5.2 to note that the whole of Anglesey has been designated by UNESCO as a Geopark. Councils’ Response After giving the matter further consideration it is considered that the sentence that refers to the GeoPark should be moved to the section relating to ‘landscape conservation’ rather than retain it within the section dealing with ‘nature conservation’. Also, it is considered that additional information should be included to explain the reason for the Island’s designation as a Geopark. Consequently , t he Councils wish to offer the following modifications (through Matters Arising Change): 7.5.2 Nature Conservation : Species of principal importance .................. Part of Anglesey is designated as a GeoPark. 7.5.4 Landscape conservation : Covering an area that incorporates the Anglesey Coast Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty and the Llyn Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, to the boundaries of the Snowdonia National Park, the Plan area has a distinctive and diverse landscape. As well as the nationally protected Areas of Outstanding Natural Beauty, the wider Plan area has tracts of unspoilt countryside that are locally distinctive and worthy of designation as Special Landscape Areas.

    Minutes of the Finance Sub-Committee Meeting held at the Parish Hall, Llandegfan on Monday, 3rd JANUARY 2019. 1 PRESENT: Cllrs Idris Alan Jones (Chairman), Mrs Jean Davidson, Miss Joan Kirkham, Mr Alun Roberts, Mr Eurfryn Davies. Clerc – Mr John Alun Foulkes 2 APOLOGIES: Mr Ernie Thomas & Mrs Nia Jones. 3 The Chairman extended a warm welcome to every member to the meeting. 4 The main purpose of the meeting was to decide on the Income & Expenditure (Budget) for the Council for 2019-2020 in order to recommend the Council's Precept to the next Full Council meeting. 5 Budget Review of the Council's Expenditure & Income 2018-2019: 5.1 Before proceeding, the Clerk had produced a financial statement as at 31st December 2018 showing that the Council had spent £21,940 against £37,100, well within the budget estimates. However, further expenditure of £14,500 is expected during the last 3 months of the financial year, being Annual Donations to Local Organisations totalling approximately £2,000, the Clerk's salary for the remaining part of this financial year amounting to £1,500 (PAYE inclusive), the Annual Insurance invoice of £2,000, Playfield Equipment of £3,000 and a payment to the Parish Hall Account totalling £6,000. Therefore, expenditure is on target. Income due back into the Council account is a VAT refund of around £2,000 and the County Council’s Footpath Grant of £1,200, leaving very little to spare in term of resources as at 31st March 2019. 5.2 In contrast, the Parish Hall account is showing a positive figure of around £33,000 with a Grant payment of around £2,500 to be received from the Anglesey Charitable Trust.
