Yellowstone Country Differentiator: The “ Beyond Yellowstone” experience that can be found throughout the YC region; the primary reason people come to Montana is to visit Yellowstone National Park; however, once (or in addition to) the park experience, the region offers the opportunity to “get away from your getaway by heading north of the park”. Visiting the world’s most famous national park is a must for many people, but we want to broaden that experience to encompass what can be found just outside the park. -

We serve eight counties including the Fort Peck Indian Reservation, and our region borders ND to the east and Canada to the north. We plan to move forward from 2020 and the COVID-19 pandemic cautiously and with a positive attitude towards travel. According to Destination Analysts, people are showing overall optimism toward travel and the summer is looking promising as more people are getting vaccinated, feeling safer, and wanting to get out and go somewhere more than ever before. -

43 SUPPLY AND PREFERENCES OF OUTDOOR RECREATION RESOURCES 44 CHAPTER 3 CHAPTER 3 RECREATION LANDSCAPEIN MONTANA The recreation landscape in Montana is as diverse as the lands our public agencies manage. Federal, state, Tribal, and local agencies manage 40% of the total land base in Montana, while the other 60% 45 is in private land ownership. This section describes the roles and importance of major recreation providers in Montana including federal, state, and local agencies in more detail. Collectively, these agencies play a unique and vital role in providing and supporting diverse public outdoor recreation experiences throughout the state. While it is impossible to highlight every agency and organization relevant to outdoor recreation in Montana, particularly non-profits and the private sector, the most significant providers and public land managers that impact recreation statewide are highlighted in this section. The Montana SCORP only focuses on the public land management agencies. As part of the collaborative efforts for SCORP, Montana State Parks requested agencies to draft a narrative of their role in providing recreation in Montana. A template was provided to guide the development of the narrative. The following section includes the narratives provided by each agency, in the agency’s own words, for their role as public outdoor recreation providers in the state, their mission, visitation levels, agency trends, and challenges faced in the coming years. RECREATION LANDSCAPE IN MONTANA COMMON THEMES A number of themes emerged from the agency narratives that discuss similar challenges public land agencies are facing in managing outdoor recreation opportunities and facilities, including decreasing budgets and deferred maintenance. -

Indian Education for All Units related to Montana State Parks Makoshika State Park January 2010 (revised) Title Dinosaur Trails and Dinosaur Tales Content Areas Science; Social Studies; Literature; Art Grade Level 2nd-4th (could be simplified for K-1st grades) Duration 2 50-minute class periods, 1 homework assignment, and 2-3 periods for related Dinosaur Trunk lessons. (*Can be done without the Dinosaur Trunk lessons, but is intended to be used in conjunction with a hands-on dinosaur lesson.*) Montana Education Standards and Benchmarks Indian Education for All Essential Understanding 1: There is great diversity among the 12 tribal Nations of Montana in their languages, cultures, histories and governments. Each Nation has a distinct and unique cultural heritage that contributes to modern Montana. Essential Understanding 3, part 2: Each tribe has its own oral histories which are as valid as written histories. These histories pre-date the “discovery” of North America. Essential Understanding 6: History is most often related through the subjective experience of the teller. With the inclusion of more and varied voices, histories are being rediscovered and revised. History told from an Indian perspective frequently conflicts with the stories mainstream historians tell. Montana Content Standards and Benchmarks Social Studies Content Standard 3: Students apply geographic knowledge and skills (e.g., location, place, human/environment interactions, movement and regions). Rationale: Students gain geographical perspective on Montana and the world by studying how people interact with places. Knowledge of geography helps students address cultural, economic, social and civic implications of living in various environments. Benchmark 3.2 Students will locate on a map or globe physical features, natural features, and human features.
