  • Inniskeen Spatial Plan DRAFT
Inniskeen Village Public Realm Spatial Plan (DRAFT) 12th Fenruary 2021 Contents 1. Introduction 2. Analysis 3. Concept 4. Key Spaces 5. Spatial Plan 6. Costs & Phasing Introduction Inniskeen Public Realm Spatial Plan has been prepared to inform the future development of public realm in and around Inniskeen for both locals and visitors alike. Spatial Plan Context Inniskeen is a small village located in Co.Monaghan, it is a historic settlement rich in archaeology, landscape features and architectural character, which inspired much of Patrick Kavanagh’s early work as a writer. There are two areas of commercial activity, at the road junction at McNello’s Pub which includes a public house, a petrol station, shop, and credit union. The second commercial centre is at the former railway station cluster including Magee’s public house and shop. Community uses dominate the centre of the village including the river walk, pitch and putt course, Community Centre, National School, Church of Ireland, Round Tower, Graveyard, and the Patrick Kavanagh Centre. Residential development occurs within the village centre to the north west and principally to the west of the village. Brief The Project Brief was to deliver a design which enhances the architectural quality of the sensitive streetscape, provides a high-quality concept and incorporates the following principles: • Reinvent the village as a place for people. • Development of pedestrian linkages between the Village, Kavanagh Centre and the Monaghan Way/ Railway Station. • Designation of key urban spaces for enhancement and specifi c urban design proposals. • Realisation of the potential of heritage and cultural assets for both locals and visitors.

  • Annual Report Issue #8 • Summer 2017
annual report Issue #8 • Summer 2017 It really is the thought that counts As told by mom Lisa Photos: Beaton Photography Photos: “Your daughter has a brain tumor. There is no other way to say it.” n early March of 2016, Abbey started getting nauseated, That news took our breath away. About half an hour later but it was during cold and flu season so we didn’t pay they brought her out of the MRI and we were too afraid to too much attention to it. Then, she had a sinus infection even tell her. The doctor told her about the tumor, and they that was treated, but she still had headaches and was still ambulanced her to Denver. (continued on page 4) Ifeeling nauseous. She also started closing one eye. I wasn’t sure if one of her eyes was drooping or if she was closing it on purpose. When I asked her, she said that she had double vision, so we took her into urgent care. They were trying to set up a neurology appointment, but being in North Platte, the neurologist couldn’t see anyone under 18 years old and it was almost closing time. At that point I knew that something was wrong and I said to my husband, “I really think we need to go to Children’s,” and he said, “Let’s take her to the E.R. first.” We went to the emergency room and the doctor there agreed to do the MRI that night. Abbey was only in there 10 minutes before the radiologist came out and walked right past us.

  • Secondary Consultation Response Robbie Butler
2018 REVIEW – SECONDARY CONSULTATION RESPONSE ROBBIE BUTLER MLA Response ID: BHLF-33PK-2YXZ-X Submitted to 2018 Review: Secondary Consultation Postal area: Name: Robbie Butler MLA Email: Organisation - please enter 'None' if this does not apply: Ulster Unionist Party Comments on Ulster Unionist Party submission: Dear Sir/Madam I am writing in my capacity as a Lagan Valley MLA regarding the ongoing consultation regarding the Boundary Commission’s proposals for new Parliamentary boundaries for the current Lagan Valley constituency. The Commission’s proposals would split the City of Lisburn in two and transfer the bulk of it into a modified South Antrim which would stretch from Lisburn up to Antrim town and across to Glengormley which is situated North of Belfast. It will separate Lisburn from its southern and western hinterlands of Hillsborough, Dromore and Moira, towns which many former Lisburn residents naturally migrate to, and these would then form part of a new West Down constituency. I would argue that there is no rational argument for splitting the City of Lisburn, Northern Ireland's second largest city, cutting of historical connections and community bonds. Similarly there is simply little or no logic for the new constituency of West Down which expands from Bandbridge and Portadown in the west to Carryduff in the east, with Hillsborough, Drumbo, Hillhall, Blaris being paired with Bleary and Waringstown. This new constituency has no centre and destroys numerous longstanding community ties. It would appear to me that such has been the desire to reduce Belfast from four to three constituencies that little consideration has been given to boundaries outside of Belfast.

  • 22Nd Annual Chicago Irish Film Festival MAR 4—8, 2021 DIRECTOR’S STATEMENT
22nd Annual Chicago Irish Film Festival MAR 4—8, 2021 DIRECTOR’S STATEMENT If there was one word to describe this year’s festival, it is perspective; how do we see things and what do we really know? And looking at the elephant in the room named Covid, we all know our perspectives have changed. And when I watched this year’s program of films my perspective on a number of issues and historical events changed over and over again and I wanted to personally thank every filmmaker that afforded me the opportunity to see things in a new light: the real power of film. This year’s festival covers a wild west of topics, from the emerging art scene in 1930’s Ireland to a twist of fate and a deflected assassin’s bullet in 1936 Italy. We see all sorts of family dynamics; the good, the bad and the totally uncomfortable. There are films that will make you want to close your eyes before you jump, but you’ll look anyway and films that are so stunningly beautiful you’d like to frame the images so you never forget how magical movies can be. Of course, one of the things I most love about the festival is hanging out with our donors and sponsors, our dedicated festival goers and the wonderful filmmakers that have journeyed to Chicago each year to share their film; the true festival experience. But this year I am grateful to our streaming platform that helped us keep the festival going and will also allow this year’s amazing group of films and special partnership programs find new audiences outside our geographic footprint.
