She went on to become a massively successful solo artist. Ramsey replaced her. She had some big shoes to fill. “I always say we wore the same size,” joked Ramsey. “She gave me her hand-me-downs sometimes, when we were on the road – her clothes and shoes. It was something that just kind of evolved and for me now the band is what it is … it was a little bit strange and sometimes it can be strange, because we sort of resemble each other, too. I love singing, playing and writing. It just felt like a good fit. And, it seems like from our longevity, we keep on trucking. It still has meaning and it’s just a very comfortable environment.” Perhaps that’s because Ramsey has ties to 10,000 Maniacs that stretch back to college. She was attending the State University of New York at Fredonia when Ramsey came into their orbit.

I learned to golf here when it was just a nice nine-hole course, but I joined a golf league here when it became the 18-hole course it is today. Most of the original holes appear almost untouched on the front nine, so I have some fond memories there, but it’s the back nine that will keep you coming back for more. Enjoy the gully hole (No. 12, and that’s not its official name) and the par-5 Horseshoe (No. 15). The first time I parred the Horseshoe counts in my favorite top-five golf memories of all time.
