ŠKODA Motorsport, Page 1 of 4 ŠKODA duos on track to finish on the podium in the Fabia R5 at the Rally de Portugal › "Flying Finn" Lappi gets first three stage best times in the new high-tech rocket › Lappi second, Tidemand third in the WRC 2 standings ahead of the final day › Big final on Sunday with legendary Fafe stage in front of 100,000 fans Porto, 23 May 2015 – After a strong performance, two ŠKODA duos in the new Fabia R5 are heading for the podium in the WRC 2 standings of the Rally de Portugal. European champions Esapekka Lappi/Janne Ferm (FIN/FIN) got the first three stage best times on Saturday on the new rally car's first start in the FIA World Rally Championship (WRC). Going into the final day, this sees "Flying Finn" Lappi in second place in the overall standings, directly ahead of the second ŠKODA team Pontus Tidemand/Emil Axelsson (S/S). "We are delighted with how the WRC debut in the new Fabia R5 is developing for us so far. But our main aim is to finish the rally," said ŠKODA Motorsport Director Michal Hrabánek. On the hardest day of the Rally de Portugal with 165.40 kilometres scheduled, on the winding gravel tracks around Porto, the high-tech four-wheel drive showed how much potential it has. Right on the first stage, Baião 1, Lappi got the historic first WRC best time in the new ŠKODA Fabia R5, 4.2 seconds faster than his team-mate Tidemand. "Yesterday we had stones, today sand; the conditions were totally different to Friday. -
TOYOTA GAZOO Racing Accelerates Onto Super-Fast Polish Stages
June 23, 2017 Toyota Motor Corporation GAZOO Racing Company Rally Poland: Preview TOYOTA GAZOO Racing accelerates onto super-fast Polish stages The TOYOTA GAZOO Racing World Rally Team will take on some of the fastest roads in the FIA World Rally Championship on Rally Poland from June 29 to July 2, when it will look to continue its strong momentum last time out in Sardinia. Now the team faces a brand-new challenge on rapid gravel stages that are very different from those of southern Europe, but with the possibility of more very hot weather. Car 10(Jari-Matti Latvala, Miikka Anttila) Although it is the fourth consecutive round held on gravel, Rally Poland poses a very different challenge to the events held before it, with soft, sandy and flowing stages. The high speeds can be similar to those seen on Rally Finland, so it will provide a good opportunity for the team and three crews to develop the performance of the Yaris WRC in these demanding conditions ahead of the following round. Rally Poland is based at the town of Mikolajki in the north-east of the country, where a super special stage hosts the opening stage on Thursday evening. It features again at the end of both Friday and Saturday’s action, when it follows two loops of four stages. The rally ends on Sunday with two stages ran twice, featuring the new 18.68-kilometre Paprotki test that serves as the event-closing Power Stage. To prepare for next week’s rally, all three drivers took part in a test on gravel in Estonia, using similar roads to those that will be seen in Poland. -

Motorsport Information FIA World Rally Championship (WRC), Rally Spain Champions, champions, champions, champions*! Ogier/Ingrassia claim fourth WRC title in a row with Volkswagen § Crowned with a win: Ogier/Ingrassia wrap up world title after eleven rallies § Title defence sees champions join Kankkunen and Mäkinen in exclusive club § Match point number two for Volkswagen in the Manufacturers’ Championship Wolfsburg (16 October 2016). Sébastien Ogier/Julien Ingrassia (F/F) were crowned World Rally Champions for the fourth time in a row after taking victory at the Rally Spain. They guided their Volkswagen Polo R WRC to a fifth win of the season in Catalonia, finishing ahead of Dani Sordo/Marc Martí (E/E, Hyundai) und Thierry Neuville/Nicolas Gilsoul (B/B, Hyundai). Their ninth podium in eleven races triggered wild celebrations. The Frenchmen can no longer be caught at the top of the overall standings in the 2016 FIA World Rally Championship (WRC). Team-mates Andreas Mikkelsen/Anders Jæger (N/N) went into the Rally Spain as their closest rivals in the title race, but the Norwegians’ hopes of winning the championship were dashed when they were forced to retire from the rally. Eighth place in the Manufacturers’ classifications for Jari-Matti Latvala/Miikka Anttila (FIN/FIN) means Volkswagen is well- placed to claim its fourth Manufacturers’ title in a row next time out at the Rally Great Britain. Kankkunen, Mäkinen and Ogier – up there with the biggest names in rallying 952 days in a row at the top of the table: Sébastien Ogier is only the third World Rally Champion to be crowned champion four years in a row in the pinnacle of rallying, and the fourth four-time world champion in the history of the FIA World Rally Championship (WRC). -

Rally Estonia
MEDIA INFORMATION 2020 FIA World Rally Championship Round 4: Rally Estonia MICHELIN ready for action as the 2020 WRC campaign resumes with a new-look final run-in After an interruption of practically five months since March’s Rally Mexico which was itself shortened slightly as the Covid-19 pandemic took a grip, the 2020 FIA World Rally Championship fires back up this weekend in Estonia. Included for the first time as part of the WRC calendar, Rally Estonia did not feature on the initial 2020 schedule. However, tightening travel restrictions have led the series’ organisers to focus on European venues and postpone the longer-haul fixtures until next season. After the year’s wintry openers, namely Rallye Monte-Carlo and Rally Sweden, Mexico was the first of the championship’s initially-planned gravel events, which means Rally Estonia will be the second loose-surface round of the campaign. Having emerged as the Baltic States’ biggest motorsport event since it was first organised in 2010, the rally is reputed above all for its fast stages and jumps, yet it also includes a number of technical forest roads that range from narrow to wide. The defending world champion Ott Tänak will obviously be keen to post a top performance on home soil in his Hyundai i20 Coupe WRC which is equipped with Michelin tyres, as are all the cars of the sport’s stars who are eager to get behind the wheel in anger for the first time since mid-March. For sanitary reasons, Rally Estonia will run to a compact format, with the weekend’s 17 stages (11 on Saturday, September 5, plus six on Sunday) totalling just 232.64 kilometres. -
